Fast In Together

Cold weather means I'm back to layering button-ups and sweaters almost every day! A great layering staple is a cute chambray shirt. I scored this one from old navy, but I have a couple others from Lands' End Canvas and Brooks Brothers. They are great for work looks and casual looks too. 

Layering with thicker sweater and cardigans can make you a bit bulky on top, so I like adding in a belt to accentuate my waist.

This autumn has been lots of fun! The kids have been to the pumpkin patch, trick or treating and a couple of fall festivals. For the chillier days, we find fun ways to spend time together inside. We often enjoy cool and educational shows on Nick Jr. My son (four years old) and daughter (15 months) love to dance, learn and play along with many of Nick Jr.'s characters!

Scott and Ben are taking this project directly to friends and fans with Kickstarter. Funding will help produce a new multimedia experience for toddlers and babies, including five-minute episodes of the new show and an interactive iPad app that kids and grownups can enjoy together.

Broke out my hot pink double cloth wool coat I scored at J. Crew last year on SUPER sale :) I gotta say, this coat really tested my photography skills! It was so hard to capture the true color of the coat. Yes, it's bright pink...but still I found it hard to get the shots I could be more happy with #bloggertroubles #tripodadventures :)

I love the bright color. I get lots of complements from women when I wear this coat! I think most ladies never stop loving pink :) This was a work look. I tossed in my calf hair leopard pumps since wearing all black essentially create a blank slate. I could have tossed in more color for accessories, but I went for a more simple necklace.

I mixed a few things together in this look--mixed patterns (stripes and leopard) and I mixed trends (cargo vest, embellished sleeves, and the maxi skirt). It came out pretty good. I've been wanting to mix stripes and leopard. I've seen the look on Pinterest so much and that gave me a bit of courage to go for it.  Are you following me on Pinterest? Again, since I had so much going on on the top, I chose to keep my bottom piece simple. This long charcoal gray maxi skirt fit the bill! It's a pretty old DKNY piece that I've had for maybe close to 10 years. I adore it! It's almost like a thick sweatshirt material/ponte knit, the quality is fantastic.

Sweaters have been given a bit of oomph this fall! There are critter sweaters, embellished sweaters, embroidered sweaters and even dressy sweatshirts. They are great for layering for both work and play--easily dressed up and down.  I took a liking to this fox critter sweater I scooped up at Old Navy a few weeks ago--they still have them online and on sale. They have had so many fab, affordable picks in this trend. Forever21 has some great picks too! I love this one and this one!

I paired mine with a fun mini-polka dot button-up shirt (also seen here) and cropped trousers (I wear these ALL the time! ha! Also seen here and here).

Burrrrrr! What a blustery day! The weather has the whole family layering up! Undershirts for the kids and cardigans for me and hubby. I recently purchased the AWESOME elephant scarf on eBay...for...drum roll please..$5! So of course, I had to buy two!  Catch my post on Instagram, here! 

This scarf is the only new piece I am rocking in this post. It's funny how such a small thing can inspire a whole ensemble! A cool scarf is a great way to treat your self and brighten up your look! Oh, and it's definitely scarf weather!

Oh! I'm so naughty! I'm breaking some rules today--trespassing and pattern mixing with camo and stripes. I must say it's kinda fitting that I rock this trench coat and pumps together because I got them both at SUPER prices! The trench was on sale at Banana Republic (who has been often having sales with an extra 50% off sale prices) and the shoes are from 6pm.com (A GREAT site for discount shoe shopping on name brands. My favorite, in fact). 

This was a work look, so when I wear "fun pieces" like these shoes or this trench, I keep other parts of my ensemble pretty simple. Albeit, they were still very neutral, I felt more "comfortable" pattern mixing with my coat and shoes this way.

I decided to get a bit dapper and usher in fall. I've been layering up a bit for the cooler temps, which have been mild and pleasant. I bought this chambray bow tie last year and just wasn't sure when I'd wear it. It's my first time rocking it and I'm kinda in love. I will say I could use a bit more practice tying it :)

This was a look for work--I'd love to sport my bow tie for a more casual look too. This same button up with a jean jacket and some camo pants would be fab!

The temperatures have dropped a bit so it's time to pull out your layering pieces! I recently purchased this Old Navy maxi dress thinking that it could easily be paired with a cardigan, light jacket or vest! I really like how this look turned out. The vest is one of my favorite layering pieces!

The fit of this dress is great. I belted the vest to get a more polished look for work. A pair of basic black pumps completed my look. If I had a cute pair of closed-toe tan pumps, I would have rocked them. I LOVE these from Lands End. This dress will also get rocked with boots once the weather gets even cooler!

Even with summer coming to a close, the temperatures in D.C. and VA have been pretty warm. I've been enjoying it, of course. I was happy to join these pansies for a little laugh ;-)

It's true I am a warm temps girl, but I have had my eye on some fabulous fall weather pieces that I want to scoop to usher in the cooler temperatures. A nice pair of calf hair pumps, a cute leather jacket, and a few chic sweaters should dull my "summer blues." Fall, I know it's time for you and I'm ready!

This summer, I have enjoyed the warm temperatures and sunshine to the fullest! I’ve been to sunny beaches in Florida (my favorite), I’ve enjoyed long walks along the Potomac River, I’ve strolled around Pike’s Place Market and gazed at Mt. Rainier, and so much more. It’s been a great summer—and I intend to enjoy the rest of August and September too and all that nature has to offer.

When I think about it, summer is one of my favorite times of the year, because I get to enjoy nature the most when it’s warm and sunny out (not to mention, I love summer fashion). I know we all have our favorite seasons for different reasons. Have you enjoyed your summer? This dress purchase was one I could not resist! Again, I scored big on an Anthropologie sale! you guys have noticed that I have rocked a few great Anthro dresses this summer--something I was not able to do last summer because I was pregnant :) Pretty much it's not secret that summer dress wearing is one of the best parts about summer to me. I'm sad when the weather begins to cool down. BUT, these end of season sales make me VERY happy!

So, I know summer is ending in the next month or so, but I still have sandals I haven't worn yet! Is it crazy that I want to be sure to wear all of my summer shoes before it's too late? This was my last new dress that I had not worn yet! I feel so accomplished! Now, on to the shoes! :)

Anyone else sad to see summer go? All you folks who welcome fall, just remember fall is just a fast, slippery and steady slope into winter. Cold and mean winter ;-)

This summer has been hot, but not as hot as others. I was able to wear this linen blazer one day last week and not melt! I scored this blazer recently at a J.Crew Factory sale! The price was amazing! I love the color and the pinstripe lining is a pretty nice touch.

These end of season sales from places like J. Crew, The Limited, and Talbots have been great for scoring work staples like skirts, blazers and summer dresses. I say stock up on a few items now. You will be happy you paid these low prices for items that are sure to come back next summer at much higher prices!

Hot enough for ya?! It's been blazin' here in the DMV--I am not complaining mind you, I'm just saying...I'm still VERY happy to wear my skirts and dresses everyday. Not to mention my sandals!

The shoes I am waering today are almost two years old and this is my first time wearing them! Last summer, these heels did not make it into to my "pregnancy heel" rotation and the I bought them at the end of the summer the year before that.  I am sad to say I actully have a couple more pairs of shoes in my closet I've never worn. Trust, me I will put them to good use. I believe in using my wardrobe to its fullest!

I strutted my stuff in these to work. Some may think these are a little dressy for work...like many of other things I wear. Ha! But, I like dressing nicely for work. It's the place I go 5/7 days a week! If I don't wear my "cute stuff" (*cute but still work appropriate for a  business-casual environment) to work, it will sit in my closet too long for my liking not getting used. Plus, "dressing up" makes me feel good. How could I let these little pretties stay cooped up in my closet any longer?! :)

How do you dress for work everyday? Do ever think you could "spruce it up a little" or feel like your in a rut. Or perhaps you're  a fashionista and you like to strut your stuff??? 

I totally fell in love with this Karen Walker dress as soon as I saw it. I basically stalked in on Anthropologie.com and snapped up the last one when it went on sale. I think it maybe could have been one size smaller, but I am digging the baby-doll silhouette--not my typical favorite fit. For my figure, I typically like dresses to nip in closely around my waistline. I'm a "fit and flare" type of girl. I struggled a bit with how to pose!  

It was SUPER hot--I had to get these pictures pretty early in the morning so me and my photographer didn't melt :) I have to say, I enjoy the heat! I'd rather be hot than cold ANY day! 

I would have tried to switch my poses up a bit more so you could see the cool fit of the dress better, but we had to hurry :(

I think the pattern of this dress made me step out a bit from my normal "comfort zone" and give it a try. Like I said, I thought it was super cute as soon as I saw it, but that doesn't always mean it's gonna look great on. Sometimes, you have to think of what is the most flattering for your figure and stick to it, no matter what trends are hot. On the other hand, it's nice to break out a bit from your norm.
