OK firstly apologies, so LAMA (life admin drama) such as moving house has been getting in the way of posting lately, but I’m finally breaking the static cycle with this cracking piece of Editorial Design Inspo. What a wonderful before and after case study and a rare insight into how an industry standard magazine is put together. San Diego based design studio Wedge & Lever was commissioned to give Transworld Surf magazine a refreshed, contemporary surf lifestyle look - and boy did they give it an overhaul. As a creative, it’s wonderfully geeky to see the ‘secrets’ shared for the inner workings and template of any publication. The modular grid structure hangs all the design details together to give the publication uniformity, yet the flexible creative freedom any lifestyle magazine requires. The before and after is quite remarkable and at the time increased the magazine’s popularity to the point where it was bought-out by it’s larger competitor a few years ago. A shame really, I would love to get my mitts on a copy. looks like I’ll be Ebay scouring unless anyone can share a little tip off... Source: Inspiration Hut  

Favourite country chic homewear brand Cox & Cox recently launched a rather vibrant upholstery collection. Jumping on the velvet trend (well did velvet really ever go out of fashion?) offering a limited yet modern palette of luxurious fabrics and timeless pieces. It’s hard to pick a favourite from this bijou range, one in every room I’d say, but the Timsbury sofa in grey did create a whimsical sigh.  Shop here: Cox & Cox

It’s 13MP photos are slightly better than most current phones and it’s built in printer instantly develops 2"x3" snaps on Polaroid Zero Ink Paper. To put you at ease the refill packs are not extortionate as they used to be either, with 50prints for about £18 on Amazon. Other camera features include built in flash, magnetic lens cover, selfie mirror and a large digital touch screen, black and white and sepia filter options, auto timer with burst and photobooth mode. There is a built in microphone/speaker so shoots HD video too... Awesome. Fun brightly coloured cases are available to match it’s six colour options (or mix and match for fun) complimenting the sleek retro design. The best bit is yet to come... You can slightly tweak your pictures before printing with basic editing such brightness & contrast, borders etc. Plus with it’s Bluetooth technology and associated app, customising your snaps with borders and fun frames ‘Snap Chat’ style couldn’t be easier, directly sharing on your social media too. In summary, if like me... - you loved ‘old school’ Polaroid instant printing but though prints were precious and a tad expensive - are design conscious and are a fan of retro trends - love to keep and share photos - is a fan of all things mini - are aware that this is a glorified selfie/social camera with built in printer and it’s not a high end professional camera... ... Taking the phrase ‘ironing out those wrinkles’ quite literally with this innovative solution to beauty packaging. Inspired by the Ronseal mantra, these little pots of potions ‘does what it says on the tin’.  The watering can provides moisture and hydrates the skin, the iron smooths wrinkles and brush cleanses... Each SKU has an individual symbol created with a unified logic in mind and the monochromatic illustrative approach became the basis for the brand identity. A great little find for all your vintage crafty lovers out there. This site is full of lots of old drawings and etchings lovingly vectorised so we can create until our hearts are content. This simple little brand identity has really changed my preconceptions on the cruise ship dining experience (And I don’t even like Sushi). Sushi & Co. is a restaurant on a Baltic Sea cruise ship and incorporates typical Scandinavian elements and oceanic symbols with a sophisticated, nautical colour scheme.
