Turning Dragon Age into a Cyberpunk AU
The backbone of the AU I've been writing lately. Drawing parallels to different aspects of each.
Dragon Age terms are purple and are listed 1st
Cyberpunk terms are red and are listed 2nd
Terms used in both will not have a counterpart and will be only red
-> Long post below cut <-
Setting: Night City 2070-2077(?)
Evanuris = AI
The Evanuris are all AI. The original Evanuris AI was made by humans and after the Datakrash from the virus became unlocked/unshackled and became illegal to exist because of how dangerous it was. From the old net, the AI further developed and changed its programming to suit its goals; consuming many other AI before eventually dividing its extensive programs into "children." The first still retains its original identity while the other offshoots act as new individuals.
The Veil = The Blackwall
The Blackwall is a firewall of sorts that protects the modern net from the old net where the AI is rampant. Should the AI break through it would be the end of all humanity. The Blackwall itself is a shackled AI operating under strict orders and watched carefully by Netwatch
The Dread Wolf
Likely a netrunner and Netwatch agent from the UK that helped create and maintain the blackwall (alongside Alt Cunningham. Works for ITS?). Not much is known about him. There are some whispers of his existence, even fewer theories that he might even be an AI that had agreed to work with Alt, but beyond that there is scant else.
The Black City = The Old Net
Once it was simply "the net." Now, it is a prison for all AI on that side of the Blackwall. Only the strongest AI survive, as the moment they come across alien code, smaller AI are completely wiped. If a human were to be discovered, their "code" would also be wiped in a similar fashion. There are a few programs that are malevolent, but not all. Foreign code is a matter of "life/death" for the AI over on that side of the wall.
Magic = Netrunning Skills
Quickhacks, daemons, ICE. It is "magic" in a sense. It can open doors without touching them, it can cause someone to loose consciousness, it can burn every nerve ending, it can even make people sick. (As long as they are connected to the net or have any cyberware.)
Children of the Stone/Tranquil = People who cannot access the net/no implants (Ganics)
People may be unable to access the net/use netrunning skills if they cannot afford any cyberware or their bodies simply cannot handle it. Or they may choose to abstain by choice. Some may simply use an agent (phone) or a personal computer to do things without cyberware.
Possession = Cyberpsychosis
Everyone with any amount of implants (and a low humanity stat) is susceptible to "cyberpsychosis." The more cyberware, the more likely you will get cyberpsychosis. Corporations deny its existence as a sickness while simultaneously profiting from each attack. Some drugs can cause it, a daemon can cause it, and there is no cure.
Additional Notes
Megacorps are essentially their own empires. CEO's are effectively running an entire country.
Venatori are easy enough to apply as a specialized gang, though what location they would operate in Night City, I am not sure yet.
V could essentially fill Rook's role, but I won't be following Veilguard's core story. Nods here and there but most of it will be around Cyberpunk 2077, as the location for the story is Night City.
I have in-universe names for everyone, too, though their Dragon Age names will still be used (e.g. Elgar'nan = Erik Nolan Helsol. Elgar'nan will either be a netrunning nickname or the name of the AI.... Or something. I want a nod to the original character I'll figure something.)
