You know what I find kind of interesting? The possibility of sustainable, cruelty-free leather. Most of the so-called cruelty-free leather we have now is essentially plastic. As such, it’s bad for the environment and is usually manufactured in sweatshops. But it doesn’t need to be this way.

One thing that I find intriguing is Piñatex. It’s a fairly new sustainable leather-like substance made from pineapple leaf fibers. Instead of growing pineapples for Piñatex, it is made from the waste of currently-existing pineapple processing operations. Think the left over stems from canned pineapples, pineapple juice, and such. It’s a flawed product - it’s currently made with petroleum and isn’t biodegradable, but I think this could be a step forward.

I think stepping away from unsustainable and unnecessarily cruel farming practices is the way of the future. I think moving away from our reliance on plastics is too. I am very excited for things to come.
