people are so hungry and desperate for attention on social media nowadays is because growing up they never got enough of it— ie, probably grew up in large families, went to the public school systems, etc.

the reason why i hate attention now is because i got too much of it growing up, as an only child and having no cousins on my mom’s side, and having gone to a public school that’s only doubled maybe even tripled in capacity since i’ve graduated. even then, because i was always the center of attention at home, i always wanted to blend in at school. it would have been easier had i not been constantly forced to participate in class… literally my worst nightmare. my grades were still stellar, don’t get me wrong, but the fact that a lot of it involved forced group work seems a little unfair to those introverted people like me who could have gotten the grade much more easily had they simply completed the tasks on their own. but it was rare i ever had that choice. doubly unfair how the teachers assigned the groups and put the smart quiet kids (like me) with the social butterflies who never ever took the work seriously and ended up with c’s and d’s in the class… really reflected on their life back at home, they were so social in school because they never got that attention back at home.
