“A happy memory for [many] is the opening titles for the Disneyland TV series featuring Tinker Bell. Les Clark directed and animated them in 1954 (with John Hench handling fairy dust and other effects).

“Les Clark’s animation of the girl sprite is a nuclear-age version of The Nutcracker Suite’s ‘hummingbird’ fairies from Walt Disney’s ‘Fantasia’ – which Clark also animated!

“In less than 30 seconds, Tinker Bell pantomimes rhythmic dancing and stealthily prowling in Frontierland, gracefully changes backgrounds to reveal Fantasyland, and so on.

“She illustrates the wonders of Tomorrowland…by conjuring dazzling abstract circles and spirals of atoms in space.

“Finally, Tink plunges into the whirling molecules and is transformed into a rocket whose fiery blasts become a curtain that smoothly segues into the next section.”
