Dream of the Butterfly by Yamada Mineko (1971)
Yamada Mineko has become my comfort artist. When a scanlation project drives me crazy, I always go back to her to feel happy.

inspired by me being forced to see "bisexuals have privilege" discourse in Current Year, but applies to any and all queer groups frequently accused of having passing privilege (aromantics, asexuals, transmascs, nonbinary people, etc)

me, stunted 12 year-old whose only representation of trans women had been ace ventura and jokes about shemale prostitutes, "well, i guess when i'm like, 40, and everyone i have any obligation to is dead, i can get a bunch of sex change surgeries and fuck gross men for money. but at least i'll kinda look like a girl."
real transfem representation really could've saved me a solid 15-20 years.
this feels particularly relevant with the global push to chase minors off social media. none of it is about protecting kids, it's about control. it's about cutting off vulnerable, marginalized, young people whose only opportunity to learn more about their own gender and sexuality--and find other people who are like them--is through social media platforms.
queer, particularly trans representation hasn't come all that far in 20 years. maybe there's less blatant transphobia, but there sure as hell isn't any widespread positive representation. we have multiple generations of trans women and men who were only able to explore their identities during adolescence in online spaces. and kids today are being stripped of that.
be wary of any legislation or changes in corporate policy that cites "protecting kids". it's never about protecting anyone, it's about control. there are a lot of parents that'd prefer to keep their kid in the closet 'til it kills them than watch them actually explore their identity.

Eternally tired of the way bi women are treated as to blame for the stereotypes other people create about us. “If bi women don’t want people to think x, y and z about them, they shouldn’t behave that way!”
Many of us don’t behave that way, you just hyperfocus on the ones that do and treat them as if they are the only bi women that exist. We are not a hivemind.
We are human beings with our own flaws and desires. We are under no obligation to live our lives according to someone else’s checklist in order to be treated with some basic respect.
Which is also why I’m begging other bi women to stop playing along with this mentality. You can be as virtuous as you want (by someone else’s standards), if they want to hate you for your bisexuality they will simply continue to do so. You can police other bi women for their behaviour but it’s never going to make people give up on their precious stereotypes because they were never meant to be good faith criticism anyway.
If I said a certain queer history TikTok account pulled this shit last year, would I get yelled at? 👀

Hot fucking take o’clock: if you do not understand biphobia and what bisexuals specifically experience, and especially if you think bisexuals hold any privilege for their sexuality. you are not culturally queer. If you don’t understand why bisexuals take issue with someone refusing to date us SPECIFICALLY for bigoted or ignorant reasons, you are not culturally queer. If you haven’t bothered to engage with the literature or theory about one of the largest contingents of the LGBTQ+ community, you are not culturally queer.
