A/n: this is actually my first fanfiction ever, so just keep that in mind xD maybe I‘ll write a part2 but for now, bear with me with this disgustingly cute oneshot. Also I‘m a sucker for soft Zuko.

Y/n was woken by the soft caresses of her husband Zuko. There was nothing she loved more than mornings like this, when Zuko would still be in bed next to her when she awoke. Lately these quiet moments had become quite rare and most of the time Zuko, since he had a nation to rule as the Fire Lord, would be gone in the mornings long before the sun would rise over the roofs of the palace. But today things would be different.

Y/n smiled contently as she sighed and snuggled closer into the warmth of her husbands body. She could feel the peaceful rhythm of his heartbeat under her ear, the one thing she was certain she could never get tired of. This and the feeling of his gentle hands stroking her hair. Not after two years of marriage, not ever.

Little did she know that Zuko was wide awake and admiring the beautiful face of his wife, which appeared to be coloured in ethereal gold in the soft light of the morning sun. When he saw her stirring he smiled softly to himself and continued to entangle his hands in her raven hair. After a few minutes of comfortable silence he kissed her forehead ever so lightly. „Good morning, my love,“ he whispered. An there it was, the smile he so adored. Still half asleep, y/n brushed her lips against her husband‘s bare chest in an effort to return his affection.

Zuko chuckled softly, „You look comfortable.“

With her eyes still closed, y/n nodded lightly, „That‘s because I am.“

„Good,“ he said and tightened his embrace so there was even less space between the two of them. „I wouldn‘t have it any other way.“

Outside of their room the sounds of the awakening palace could be heard. Maids and guards passed the long hallways in a never ending rush, but today nobody would bother the young Fire Lord and his wife. Zuko had cancelled all meetings with advisors or anyone else for the day. Today would be all about y/n.

„How come you are not gone already? Are they going to burst into our chambers any second now and politely tell you that you are an irresponsible little brat for not sitting in your meetings?“ y/n asked. „Because if that‘s the case, I will be very annoyed.“ The warm smile on her lips betrayed her words.

He grinned, „No one is going to burst in, I promise.“

„Good,“ his wife replied. „Can you imagine the rumours, if they saw us like that?“

Zuko slid his other arm around her torso and turned so that he could directly gaze into her heavenly face. „Like what?“ he asked cheekily and planted a loving kiss along the line of her neck.

A small giggle escaped y/n‘s mouth as she finally opened her eyes. How she loved the golden colour of his eyes. It was like looking directly into the heart of a jar of warm honey.

„Like what, y/n? Like this?“ he asked. Finally she felt his lips against her own. Zuko‘s kisses were like a warm embrace, like being caressed by the sun. Soon she was lost in his touch, his scent, in every single thing he was.

Y/n sighed and Zuko used his opportunity to deepen the kiss. Still, he was gentle, but she could sense her husband‘s rising heat. She slid one of her hands into his silken hair, which immediately earned her a content sigh in turn. Zuko pulled away ever so slightly, his breath hitting y/n‘s lips in a hot stream of air.

She smiled softly, „Are you sure, you are not needed elsewhere?“

„I am needed here and nowhere else,“ he answered decidedly and put a strand of hair behind her ear. „But you‘re right, now may not be the time. That doesn‘t mean we won‘t continue this later.“ He smirked and brushed his lips against her throat while she held her breath.

„You‘re unbelievable,“ she said a little breathless.

Then a hesitant knock on the door disturbed their heavenly silence. Y/n raised her eyebrow, „What did you just say about us not getting interrupted?“

Zuko only moaned in annoyance and buried his face in her neck. „What is it?“ he said, although his voice appeared a little muffled by his wife‘s skin.

A maid‘s voice could be heard on the other side of the door, „I have to ask, my Lord, does Lady y/n require help in dressing today?“

Zuko groaned again and mumbled something that sounded like, „Will it ever stop?“ Y/n only laughed while stroking her husbands back in soothing circles. Then Zuko replied loud enough for the maid to hear, „Lady y/n will not require your help today, thank you.“ He then added as a whisper into her ear, „I will do so gladly by myself.“

Y/n hummed softly in agreement.

„In my defense, I told them to leave us alone for today,“ he murmured.

„Yeah, I can see how deeply they respected your request.“ Y/n was grinning widely now. And even wider so, when Zuko raised his head, frowning playfully. He pinched her in her side, so he would hear the angelic sound of his wife‘s squeak of disbelief while she tried to squirm away from underneath him.
