soriku week - III. ——{ᴀ ғᴀᴠᴏʀɪᴛᴇ sᴄᴇɴᴇ}

Vanitas gave him an unimpressed glower, eyebrows raising with just a touch of surprise. Never did he imagine that something  as simple as a question would warrant such a response.

So he adjusted himself on steady feet, head tilting as if he were on the verge of a ground breaking discovery. He knew very little outside the realms of selfish ambition and even less about whatever this thing was going on about.

  “ And here I thought you were beneath critical thinking.”

A soft chuckle left his parted lips, a laugh so subtle it was almost inaudible. But a small portion of his logic pushed for answers, his nature was known to be of the persistent variety.

The replica scoffed and looked down, his fingers twitching to curl back into fists-- but no, he wouldn't, he'd keep control of those damned emotions, fake as the rest of him.

"Thinking's just about all I can do here, nothing else to do."

He sighed and closed his eyes, his posture and stance relaxing as he eased the anger back down into the box he liked to keep it locked in. Cool teals reopened and he stared at the masked figure with only a hint of disdain.

"I'm a replica-- maybe the only one, maybe not, I don't rightly know, and I don't care. I was made by a Nobody named Vexen to harrass a stupid keyblade loser named Sora. I was given fake memories and fake emotions meant to make me think I was the real deal, until the girl who gave them to me, Namine, took them away and broke my heart doing so."

He let out another sigh, taking in the breath through his nose to keep himself calmed.

"Now I have no purpose-- I even fought my real deal, and that did nothing for me, so I'm stuck here, wandering. It's fine though, not like anyone would care about a useless tool anyways. Don't even have a face to call my own, so what's the point, right?"

A slightly wistful smile curved the replica's lips and he shrugged.

"You probably didn't come here to hear me whine though, so I'll just shut up. You can call me...R...." He paused for a moment, considering it. He hadn't really had to introduce himself to someone after finding out what he was, so this was a first.

"So… it’s over. Hmph. Death doesn’t frighten me. Good riddance to a phony life. My heart was never real. I’m sure even what I’m feeling now is probably all fake."
