This week's #falloutfriday is going to be a bit different.

You see, I've been having fun showing off my favorite areas of Fallout 76, photographing amazing landscapes in game, and presenting lore that might be overlooked if you don't find every terminal, note, or holotape.

However, I think we need to have a talk about The Cranberry Bog/Watoga..

The idea of The Cranberry Bog intrigued me from the announcement of the game. I mean, what kind of crazy sights and stories would be going on in a place called The Cranberry Bog? It has to be the coolest part of the map!

Well, I'm not the type of gamer that immediately rushes to the area of a game that most interests me. I like to play my way through the missions until the story takes me there naturally.

While playing and enjoying the sights of The Ash Heap and The Mire, I always had The Cranberry Bog in the back of my mind. If the places I didn't previously have interest in exploring looked amazing, The Cranberry Bog must be insane!

Unfortunately I finally reached The Cranberry Bog and that's where the game fell flat on it's face.

First, there isn't much to look at. Most of the area is wide open fields with trenches you will frequently fall into while trying to run away from the game's most difficult enemies. You'd better have good weapons and armor, because there is almost nowhere to take cover from the multiple Scorchbeast flying around. Sometimes there are so many high level enemies on screen at one time that the game can't even handle itself and the framerate plummets or the game crashes all together.

Then, when you finally make it to Watoga, the main city in The Cranberry Bog, you're hit with a swarm of Protectrons, Mr.Handies, Assaultrons, Eyebots, and Scorched... Which is fine if you're down for a fight, but after the last enemy is down (Praying that another player doesn't enter the area and respawn every single enemy) and you take a look around, you'll notice Watoga looks like a steaming pile of shit.

Everything looks like it hasn't rendered in yet even if you're standing in the middle of the city! Watoga is supposed to be the "City of the Future", a joint effort between the Government, RobCo Industries, and Atomic Mining Services, yet it's the dullest location in the game. The textures don't look any different if you're 1000 feet away or if you're actually in the city itself!

In the aftermath of nuclear fallout, surviving members of the West Virginia state government formed the Charleston Emergency Government while waiting for word from DC. Of course, word never came.

Speaker of the House, Abigale Poole, felt the holidays still needed to be celebrated to give people hope and a feeling of normality. So the capitol building was decorated with Christmas trees and lights.

Today we dive deep into the belly of Belching Betty!

Currently the training site for Fire Breathers, this pre-war mine located in the Ash Heap is littered with Scorched and toxic air.
