Not that I’m harboring high expectations, I never do when it comes to Tom’s projects, given his track record with critics. But you said the same thing about Odyssey, and in the end, the rating was really good, including the audience score. What makes you feel that way about Spider-Man?

the social embargo looks very different from the odyssey, though lots of 'buts' here, the bloggers will hype the rotten score but the critics will be harsher

feeling a certain mixed response to BND. 80s on Rotten and low 60s no Metacritic, maybe. but it's good! the goodwill that superheroes movie had back in 2021 is not there anymore

Now that Odyssey has premiered and SM is about to be released, I’d like to talk about Tom’s next project. Do you think that if he were filming a different movie, we would have heard some news about it by now? We already know he’ll be training for Fred this year, but we still don’t know anything about the "small project." I didn’t want it to be Marvel-related, but it’s starting to look like it is. 💀

I had some hopes that this small movie was coming to fruiton, but I think we would have heard something by now. It's probably just not filming or just Secret Wars (and I think he's filming for 2 there and the rest will be his double).

Btw that news about Nolan/Universal not inviting influencers is false. Several of the first impression tweets early on were from influencers, not just professional critics.

It's not false, people just didn't read the article or made themselves dense on purpose. Universal didn't host any special screenings for influencers.

There's a common practice in the business that is screening the movie for a selective group of people (TikTokers, etc) and lifting the social embargo. Obviously all the impressions will be positive with that.

Universal hosted several screenings for critics and journalists who were doing the press junkets (amongst them, some who have high views on TikTok, Youtube and so on). The impressions came from them. IndieWire made a whole article written by chief critic David Ehrlich explaining everything and praising the decision (even more so because they gave 2 days from the last screening to the premiere, so everyone had a regular time to write the reviews and not mere hours).

But I’ll repeat what I said if any of you find it and still are going to say something anyway: do NOT send death threats. Point out their bias and unprofessionalism but please be classy. They don’t deserve it but they’ll only feel compelled to do it even more if met with hate. And death threats are never cool.

I did! Enjoyed it but not as much as the other Paddington movies. But it's lovely and Paul really knows to make a heartfelt movie. It's a great fit for the Astaire project

$40M!! This film is going to open at least $80 million worldwide if it receives a positive reception. I read an article about the production of the movie, and it doesn't look like a low-budget film to me at all.

Hmmm, not really. Biopics are not box office behemoths and Astaire is not a Michael Jackson to pull so many general audiences to the theater. Keep your expectations low, 80M ww debut is an insane number for a project like this. 150M budget is something for a superhero movie, Marty Supreme was a period piece with a lot of actors, scenery, vfx, and real locations and the budget was 70 million. The budget for TÁR was 35M. Elvis, which was epic in scale and had Baz Luhrmann at the helm had a 85M budget.

It’s The Odyssey day for me! I was out of town opening weekend, unfortunately. I am driving one hour to see it in 70 mm IMAX. It’s the first time in my movie watching history I am doing that. I’m so damn excited!

Haven't seen it either, just some clips that went viral. Is apparently well-shot, but nothing groundbreaking either. I love both Paddington movies with all my heart so I'm very confident in what Paul King brings to the table. He's a very dynamic director
