Please do send me asks about the characters and stuff, even if the AU is still a bit bare-bones right now. It'd definitely help me flesh out the worldbuilding by giving me specific things to focus on, since rn I'm having decision paralysis.

Concept sketch for FaerieTale Mettaton! I'm planning on having his face lights be glowing chunks of coal since he's a will-o-the-wisp instead of a regular ghost =]
As for how he fits into the plot? I'm not 100% sure. The role of the Royal Scientist might not actually be a thing, since fae creatures are more connected to nature than technology in general. We'll see, though, I might still change my mind. As for why his body was built by Alphys? Since the monsters don't really need souls to break a barrier or anything, there's no point in Alphys pretending that she "invented" Mettaton like she does to get her position of Royal Scientist in base UT. Maybe it's more of a defense against humans? There is no physical or magical barrier keeping the monsters inside the Fae Wilds, just the fear of getting killed by the humans on the outside that vastly outnumber them, so maybe a motivation to create this body for Mettaton would be to create an army of unkillable warriors?
Why are all the water spirit typa fairies all just generic sexy women like COME ON I wanna do something INTERESTING with Undyne that isn't just ooo mermaid or oooo siren like. Come on that's not what I imagine her to be like AT ALL. Like yeah part of her character is already meant to be subverting that general trope but LET ME MAKE MY AU UNDYNE STAND OUT and not just a reskin.
ACTUALLY WAIT is there really anything.. keeping me from making her... Not a fish? Ohoho I think I might be cooking

Sans and Papyrus, being hobgoblins, will be very proficient with making and tailoring clothes, so they'll probably run their own little shop where they offer those kinds of services! Despite this, Sans still wears his way oversized jacket and pants, half because they have sentimental value, and half as a publicity stunt.
"Have you seen that strange short monster with the oversized clothes? I heard he runs a tailoring shop with his brother!"

Behold
Designs for FaerieTale Toriel and Flowey, plus a wip design for FT!Frisk. These designs are obviously prone to change, but I'm pretty happy with how they've turned out so far!
Considering making a FaerieTale AU
Where the player messes up and tells Flowey their name, meaning he has power over them, and they can't leave the "underground", or in this case, fae wilds, without Flowey just taking control of their body and piloting them back.
Perhaps the Barrier is a large ring of Rowan trees instead of an actual magical barrier?
Instead of collecting human souls, they're literally just kidnapping/holding human children hostage in order to bribe the rest of the humans into cutting down the Rowan trees. Perhaps Frisk could even get to meet them alive and healthy during their travels through the fae wilds, but can't really do anything to help them because they're all trapped due to fae magic.
The Dreemurr family could be deer instead of goats, just for the added whimsy.
Buttercups are replaced with Foxgloves, as they're more closely associated with fae while still being poisonous.
The Golden Flowers could be replaced with Forget-Me-Nots, because how funny would it be if I turned Flowey into a type of flower that represents love?
I'll think up more in a little bit, I gotta go do something.
Thinking about what types of fae each character could be...
- The Skelebros could be... Hobgoblins, perhaps? They're described as both helpful and mischievous, which I'd say describes both of the brothers in their own ways.
- Monster Kid would be a pixie methinks.
- Undyne would be an undine because... Well... You know.
- The ghost cousins could be will o the wisps. I know that will o the wisps aren't known for possessing objects, but like... Maybe Mettaton's body could be a weird golem run by a furnace? As for Mad Dummy/Mew Mew, I'll have to think on that.
- Alphys... Either a dwarf or a kobold? Dwarf because it'd kinda fit with having Mettaton's body being a furnace-powered golem, and kobold because apparently in folklore they can turn invisible, which I can definitely see Alphys using to watch the human.
Uuhhh let me know if I forgot anybody important. Going through all these lists of fae folklore is making my head hurt.
