“  there’s  no  way  you’re  draggin’  me  all  the  way  downtown.  ”  what  he  doesn’t  tell  you  is  that  he’d  rather  avoid  a  certain  fairground  that  is  home  to  a  certain  funhouse  with  a  certain  room  full  of  mirrors.  the  memory  still  seems  branded  into  his  mind,  doomed  to  start  –  stop  when  he  realizes  he’s  thinking  of  himself  flying  again  –  then  start  once  more  as  if  it  was  put  there  specifically  to  torture  him.  “   not  with  out  incentive  at  least,   ” he  teases,  bringing  the  plastic  bottle  of  orange  soda  to  his  lips.  the  caffeine  momentarily  jolts  his  system  and  he  takes  in  a  cool  breath  of  air.

“  wouldn’t  you  rather  see  a  movie?  shoot  pool  at  some  bar  that  smells  like  plumber  farts?  ”  he  doesn’t  seem  nervous,  but  tony  can  feel  the  discomfort  tightening  in  his  throat.  a  threat  that  scares  him  more  than  the memory  of  him  flying.  “i  guarantee  the  fairgrounds  aren’t  the  only  place  you’ll  find  a  couple  of  idiots  tryin’  to  make  you  laugh.  ”

          A ROLL OF DEEP MAHOGANY EYES ,   there  clearly  being  no  semblance  of  amusement  at  the  prospect  of  meandering around  alucard  same  as  she’d  done  for  the  previous  thirty - four  years .   for  a  woman  who  had  the  capability   &   finances  to  travel  anywhere   &   do  nearly  anything ,   emilie  seemed  awfully  dead - set  on  returning  to  the  fairgrounds .   it  held  some  sort  of  unavoidable  appeal ,   regardless  of  the  strange  happenings  she  could  easily  connect  to  the  place  if  only  she  tried .   hide  &  seek ;   she  still  had  no  idea  what  the  little  card  meant ,   &   such  a  little  thing  didn’t  plague  her .   the  visage  of  finding  a  boy . .   a  familiar  boy  with  a  black  eye  amidst  a  blanket  of  hay ?   that  plagued  her .   that  kept  her  up  at  night  —  but  the  fairgrounds  weren’t  to  thank  for  her  creative  imagination ;   a  night  with  little  sleep   &   a  bottle  of  nearly  straight  everclear  combined  with  the  disconcerting  mirrors  of  a  funhouse  was  obviously  the  culprit .     

                     THE  NEEDLE  WAS A  SATISFACTORY  AS  ANYTHING THAT  SHE   DID    —– just like her   customers   ;   she craved it    as much as her customers did    .   seeing the   open sign      being   changed   to closed , a sigh of      relief escapes    her petals   as    she turns to the    NEXT BOOTH     and stares at      the femme    with a small   smile     on her    lips   ❛   that   last     piece  you did    was nice —- what base    did you   USE  ?  ❜   she   inquired     the     femme   , that she     had gotten    quite close    to these     last few    days  .  ❛  you   want to go get   drinks      FIRST        or our    first sesh of   JUJITSU    ?  ❜

Squinting  at  the  woman  across  from  her,  Bee  furrows  her  brows  together,  “  When  did  you  get  so  passionate  about  names  like  Roger?  Plus,  don’t  judge  the  woman!  Maybe  she’s  into  short  guys  who  look  severely  malnourished,  you  don’t  know!  “  

     Upon  noticing  the  mockery,  she  sat  up  and  leaned  closer  to  Knox,  putting  her  elbows  on  the  table  much  similar  to  earlier.  “  You  know  what  I  mean  when  I  say  scary,  don’t  act  like  you  don’t!  You  can’t  have  a  good  halloween  with  no  terror,  come  on!  “

          AS BEE ADJUSTED TO SETTLE ELBOWS ON THE GLOSSY TABLE ,    allison  did  the  same  in  such  a  way  that  didn’t  even  try  to  hide  her  mimicry .   terror  was  meant  for  the  people  who  dressed  up  in  spooky  garb  with  the  intention  of  going  around   &   chasing  people ,   or  whatever  horror  actors  did .   god  knew  she’d  had  the  shit  scared  out  of  her  the  halloween  prior  thanks  to  people  doing  that  very  thing  at  the  salem  witches’  ball .   even  if  that  trip  to  massachusetts  had  been  a  work  endeavor ,   the  party  had  been  the  a  breath  of  fresh  air  after  the  pure  repetitiveness  of  alucard’s  halloween  year  after  year .   sure ,   it  was  a  spectacle  in  her  hometown  —  alucard  knew  how  to  celebrate  if  nothing  else ,   but  the  same  old  thing  got  old  after  twenty - two  years .   deep  huff  was  expelled ,   allison  rolling  her  jaw  with  something  akin  to  annoyance .     ❝   that’s  not  me ,   bee .   ❜     as  weary  as  the  words  sounded ,   there  was  a  sense  of  genuine  dismay  laying  beneath .   

▐▐ ░ * .  — THE CANTINA IS A WELCOME CHANGE , because normally , claude is well-accustomed and comfortable in the atmosphere that is his workplace . the library is a kind quiet , a good place to THINK , and normally , he remembers certain thoughts that come to mind there . it’s why , of course , the observant librarian seems to retain so much INFORMATION on anyone who remotely looks in the front desk’s direction . he overhears things - from recent gossip to study inquiries to the last season of the bachelor to last night’s homework answers . interesting info to save for a rainy day ; he needs it to navigate , to survive . who knows when such could come in handy .

                and you can do the same in a bar , hence why , when even the quiet of the library - the stunning silence becomes unbearably loud ( staring faces & sudden suspicion some know too much , and that something awful boils along the horizon - the impending doom comes in the form of a silence too overhwhelming , because he’s now starting to OVERTHINK & being alone with such smothering thoughts , how suffocating ) he’s here . staring into the tiny glowing screen in his palm and scrolling through history articles because he’s getting visions of a deer insignia but he can’t find it no matter how hard he looks . of course , new voice directed at him breaks him from his long thought process , and an easy smile comes across the fact DESPITE he might be the slightest bit annoyed someone jumped in front of his moving train of thought . ❝ the thing , ❞ he repeats with a peaked tone & a nod , leaning on the backs of folded hands as he’s set down his phone . a pause , and a tilt of the head . a close of the eyes . ❝ hang on - lemme try n’ see if my TELEPATHY wants to cooperate with me today so i can read your mind n’ figure out what the thing is . unless , you mean the carnival on its own ! because yeah , i did go . i’m fond of getting the carnies to think they’re about to scam me and then being caught dead in the act . ❞

          AS THE YOUNGEST LE DOMAS  &  their  parent’s  only  daughter ,   emilie  had  tasted  nothing  but  the  sweetest  aspects  of  life  until  the  first  time  she’d  been  cut  off .   then ,   it  had  been  thanks  to  a  runaway  fiance   &   an  unexpected  pregnancy ;   things  unfair  to  hold  against  a  then  twenty - seven  year  old  woman .   after  quite  literally  wailing  her  way  back  into  her  mother’s  good  graces ,   they  had  come  full  circle  almost  nine  years  later .   she’d  never  claim  to  have  ever  been  their  parent’s  favorite  child ,   but  having  been  her  mother’s  pumpkin  for  so  long  —  it  was  a  SLAP  to  the  face .

                unless , you’re her , who picks him first . he holds that close to his heart and will continue doing so when he’s six feet under . because the crack of a smile he gives her and the warmth in icicle hues is not one he gives anybody else , it’s reserved for uma & uma only . ❝ damn , i don’t think i’ll make the cut then , ❞ he banters in return , a playful stomp of combat boots before he turns to uma again . crossing the arms ,  ❝ fancy , fancy , and … ❞ maybe when she lit up , he did as well . smile turns to a grin , as replies ,  ❝ show me , show me - what’s the best part ? ❞

          SUCH A RARE  &  GENUINE GRIN PULLED AT HER LIPS ,    uma  practically  buzzing  with  excitement  as  she  bent  to  reach  towards  an  opened  cardboard  shipping  box  on  the  other  side  of  the  table .     ❝   two  things ,   actually .   ❜     hands  pushed  away  the  wings   &   grabbed  what  laid  within .   smaller  box  was  still  packaged  in  a  sheen  of  tight  plastic ,   though  as  she  held  it  up  for  mihael  to  see ,   brand   &   product  title  were  printed  clearly  on  the  box :    “ SPEKTRA FLUX WIRELESS PEN by FK IRONS ” .     ❝   it  was  like . . .   insanely  expensive .   but  it’s  wireless ,   so  —  early  christmas  present  to  myself ,   y’know ?   trash  the  wrapping  for  me ?   gloves .   ❜     empty  gloved  hand  raised  in  explanation  as  the  box  was  extended  towards  her  friend .   it  was  eerie ,   how  quickly  mello  had  crept  up  on  her  in  the  beginning .    for  two  people  so  adverse  to  letting  people  in ,   finding  home  in  one  another  was  a  precious  thing .

▐▐ ░ * .  — ZELDA DOES NOT LIKE TO REMEMBER HIGH SCHOOL ; it’s never been a happy time , maybe a bit of a lonely time , because the perfect student is the prime teacher’s pet . the one with all the good grades gets abnormal glances in the hallways , some friendly and some not . the one who seems that her whole life is paved out for her does NOT have many close friends but a whole lot of people who’d like to see a crystal statue shatter . zelda was grateful to walk across that stage to get her diploma and leave … BUT OF COURSE . she finds as she grows into adulthood that real life is high school but amplified . and that just means she and allison have longer claws to throw at each other when the time comes . but she tries ; tries not to engage , not to blow on the fire . she’d rather be anywhere but here the moment the chime of the redhead’s voice reaches her ears .

                  immediately , she deduces allison as the culprit . ( wow , maybe she should give this law thing a try ! not . ) eyebrows knit , she feels her palms burn more so than they already are with pent-up frustration - in the midst of a struggling relationship , cruel nightmares , and yes , finals already to study for on the horizon , this is the last thing LITTLE MISS PERFECT ! needs today . ❝ i thought you would’ve outgrown the stereotypical high school mean girl schtick by now , ❞ she comments , voice holding the calm before the storm - rolling thunder at the bottom of her throat and only pushing to escape in time . a step towards allison’s table , french-tipped fingers beckoning the other to hand the binder back . ❝ i’m doing some work in that - i’d really much appreciate it if you give it back instead of annoying me on purpose , i know that’s what you want but i really am not in the business to entertain you today , allison . ❞ she knows she’s probably already doing exactly what the other wishes - a reaction , a fight . she’s trying to avoid it , but somehow , that can’t be done . not if zelda wants her binder back , of course .

          “  STEREOTYPICAL HIGH SCHOOL MEAN GIRL  ” .    yeah ,   that  was  allison .   she  was  a  walking ,   talking  stereotype  of  the  hot  mean   girl  cheerleader  who  always  ruffled  the  feathers  of  a  film’s  protagonist .   luscious  locks ,   self - importance   &   haughty  attitude  to  boot    /    however ,   she  wore  the  stereotype  well  with  a  sense  of  self  awareness  that  truly  pulled  the  whole  look  together .   allison  knew  what  she  was ,   &   would  happily  utilize  every  single  weapon  she  had .   now ,   her  weapon  of  choice  was  an  old  grudge .   a  grudge  never  asked  for  but  one  that  had  blossomed  all  the  same .   ginger  rather  pointedly  eyed  the  hand  that  had  reached  out  with  distaste  in  her  gaze ,   glossed  lips  pursing  to  one  side  with  a  sort  of  mock  consideration .
