He was caught off guard for a split second by the sudden focus on himself- his eyes started to fill with pain before he blinked it all back. Did he seriously look that dad? He thought he cleaned himself up rather nicely before dragging himself out of the void to meet the goddess. He couldn’t quite get his eyes normal, but he figured that didn’t matter.

A slight show of disbelief showed through the cracks of his facade. How could such a radiant goddess ever once be a mortal? He couldn’t bring himself to ask, it hurt to speak, and something in him pushed him towards silence.

[Eve would smile softly, her starry wings shifted, simply a subconscious moment, as she saw the other gaze at the makeshift bracelet. Then she saw the look in his eyes.. if he didn’t look to be in pain, she might have given a soft chuckle at his expression.]

[Instead, she spoke softly] Yes.. I suppose it’s odd to imagine, being mortal, when I seem like this now.. but I was. [The bracelet shifted in her grasp, now pressing a bit more by her hand, she gently gripped the actual dogtag. Half of the information had been worn out with time, aside from “JORDAN, LUCAS .T” and a line a bit under it with “O NEG”. Not perfect, but the winged figure had memorized every letter on there eons ago, so with the less legible parts, she still knew what information it held. The goddess gave a soft smile as she gazed towards the object..] …and I wasn’t the only one.

He didn’t have the heart to tell her that the underlying instinct was still there, still overwhelming there. Maybe she could tell through the way he kept his stance akin to attention, or the way he subconsciously corrected any genuine expression that broke through.

The wings moving caught his eye for a split second. Were they red now? They certainly weren’t the last time he saw them. It was so much more beautiful than the ever fading ghost light he deticated so much of his life to harvesting. He pried his eyes away, and mentally berated himself for getting distracted so easily

Yet still, Briar soaked in every word, committing the information to memory.

It actually helped knowing that she could feel and probably take the guilt that threatened to consume him. He wasn’t entirely useless.
