This is old news but it’s something I think about any time the finale is brought up:

Everybody who acted all weird about Hughie and Annie naming their daughter after Robin is showing their own insecurity and inability to understand nuance in relationships, especially surrounding trauma and grief.

Robin wasn’t an Ex in a “normal” way. They didn’t brake up or have some betrayal that ended their relationship, they didn’t part ways amicably, and she’s not still out there to talk to or reconnect with. She was brutally murdered, right in front of Hughie. Hughie will never forget Robin, not because he’s obsessed with his Ex and can’t get over leaving her, but because she was suddenly taken from him in an incredibly traumatizing way. Of course he still loves her, and of course in a way Annie does too. Because without Robin, they would not have found each other or been able to end Homelander.

Hughie most likely wouldn’t have been radicalized against Supes because Butcher never would have gone after him. Annie would probably still revolt in some way against The Seven, but without tactical help from The Boys and the constant emotional support and relief Hughie gives her, she may not have made it out alive.

Robin is the cataclysm for nearly everybody’s story in the series that we see. Annie and Hughie honoured her in the highest way, by never forgetting her and bringing life to her memory through the love they have for each other. It’s beautiful and sad and I can’t believe there were people who got so upset and were unable to understand the reasoning.
