What do you love/hate about spring? _ Spring is my least favorite season. Yes, it's about rebirth, life, and all that stuff. It's also about doing an extraordinary amount of yard work. Yesterday, I performed the energy cleansing rituals included in the @jujubegone “Breaking Up is a Bitch Box.” I won't comment on the exact nature of my experience because those kinds of things are deeply personal and I believe they should stay private. I will say this, it was beautiful, meditative, and peaceful. I felt much lighter afterwards. As I mentioned in a previous post, I don't have a lot of experience with this kind of stuff. The included instructions made it very easy. _ Some of you are probably rolling your eyes at this stuff. I know I have. But there are so many things about the nature of the universe that we don't and frankly can't understand. If you find yourself in a bad place, I invite you to open your mind to something new. Heads up! This is not an ad. I was gifted this box. _ I opened the door today to find a box from @jujubegone on my front stoop. I wasn’t entirely sure what I’d find inside that little black box, but I could tell you that it smelled fantastic. _ The motto over at Juju Be Gone is, “in addition to giving amazingly thoughtful, feel-good, energy cleaning gifts…we believe passionately in the power of intention, taking time for yourself, sharing laughs with great friends, broadening horizons and a spirit of adventure.” I didn’t know their motto before looking it up, but I definitely felt that way upon discovering its contents. _ The box I received was the “BREAKING UP IS A B*TCH! (FOR GUYS) and the immediate masculine vibe it gave off eased any concerns I may have had about what was inside. See, I’m not someone with a lot of experience with energy cleaning or any of that “juju” kind of stuff. The closest I’ve come to was the time I lit a bunch of pictures and remnants of happier times on fire in my grill after a bottle of whiskey. (Don’t do that - cleaning the grill the next day was a pain). Luckily, my Juju Be Gone box came with clever, simple, and hilarious instructions so I knew what to make of the sage, palo santo, crystal, and feather. I haven’t performed the “ritual” yet, but seeing as how this is Easter weekend (rebirth and all), I feel like it would be a good time to try. The box also included some other real cool stuff that promised to help ease the pains and shift the energy after a breakup. The book of pick-up lines had me dying. _ You can tell that these boxes were put together with care. There’s an attitude about them that I absolutely love. They don’t just have breakup boxes, either. They have boxes for Mother’s Day (just around the corner), couples, moving into a new home, and a ton of other stuff. It's National Pet Day! _ This little old lady was not the dog I wanted. I like big, active, “real” dogs. But, I am a sucker for animals and when she was given to me I recognized something in her. She had a hard life before me. She was abused, tossed from home to home, and never really experienced happiness. I remember looking down at those little eyes and seeing that all she needed, all she wanted, was to be loved. I needed that, too. So, she became my constant companion, my protector, and my guardian. In return, I gave her the love she so desperately longed for. Sure, we don't play fetch or do a lot of the traditional dog things, but when she kisses me goodnight I see that she's happy and that makes me happy, too. Listening is a skill and it’s not an easy one. Most of us are pretty terrible at it. Do this little experiment sometime and you’ll see what I mean. Watch two people talk. Don’t say anything. Just watch. 9 times out of 10 you’ll hear person b start to talk before person a is finished. This is a natural part of communication. We listen for the main ideas then start to formulate our response. But while we are formulating our response we stop listening to the other person. Then they do the same thing and the conversation becomes less about two people truly talking/listening and more about two people waiting for their chance to speak. We do this all the time. So how does one fix it? Shut up. Listen. Think. Respond.
