I'm going to say something that might annoy some people but it needs to be said. Getting your power checked at an optical shop is not an eye exam. It's a fraction of one. And most Indians don't know the difference.

No one checked your eye pressure. No one looked at your retina. No one examined your optic nerve. No one assessed your tear film. No one tested your peripheral vision. These are the things that catch glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, dry eye disease, and early cataracts. Conditions that don't affect your power at all but can quietly steal your vision over years.

What a comprehensive eye exam actually includes

When I started my clinical rotations I was genuinely surprised by how much goes into a full eye examination. The power check is maybe 10 percent of it.

You could walk out with a perfectly updated prescription feeling completely reassured and have an early retinal condition developing that nobody even looked for.

That's the gap most people don't know exists.
