in truth, she isnât concerned about those who might look down on her for expressing a lack of discrimination towards a toon. on the contrary, she shares similar feelings regarding racism, gay rights or womenâs rights - the contrast between each is no different to her. toons held a bad reputation but so too do humans in general and not every individual nor was every toon the same. the world was a judgemental place, no matter who it was directed towards and it was quite simply a never ending cycle of hate to which stella detested above anything else. the subject matter thatâs then brought forth in regards to the woman having to be owned in order to secure her safety was appalling all on its own and stella didnât hold back the expression on her face in regards to it as her spine comes to straighten. lips slightly pursed, itâs a notion sheâs unfamiliar with to say the least and so sheâs hesitant to acknowledge it completely. for now, stella remains silent, pen still in hand as it hovers over the notepad in front of her, tapping against the page lightly. with her free hand, she takes hold of the menu to her right and places it to her left, sliding it over to the woman. should she choose not to order anything further than water was up to her, but stella wasnât going to deny her the option either way. â iâm surprised then to see that your owner doesnât keep themselves by your side at all time should it be a matter of your safety at hand. but if you insist and if it would make you feel more comfortable then we could very well put on the illusion of such a thing. â the pen is then set down and stellaâs position turns just enough so that sheâs facing the other a bit more appropriately, â my nameâs stella, youâll have to forgive me a bit since iâm not used to the concept of ownership in regards to humans and toons in fact, i find it rather perplexing at best. but then again, thereâs a lot in this world that underlines a similar cause for confusion in that regard. i can only imagine the difficulties you must face on a daily basis. â especially seeing as how the woman was drawn.Â
âMy owner doesnât have the time to babysit a piece of property.  Her time is spent on copyright infringements and setting up other jobs.â She taps gloved fingers on the bar top, lips pressed together, âOr with her daughter.â  She doesnât hold anything against Eleanor.  In fact, much better an owner who kept her hands off and stayed primarily on the business side of things than ones who were, for lack of a better term, hands on.
Eleanor, at least, has not left any scars.
âI thought it might help you,â she murmurs, one hand taking the offered menu, âsince you seem keen on helping me.â Her eyes flicked across the first page, and she flips it over before finding the salads.  âComfort isnât one of my personal priorities.â Her head lilts to the side.  âHumans first, Toons second.â The bartender returns, finally, with her glass of water, and his dark eyes light on the menu in her hands, smile a bit tense.  He raises a hand with another menu - âGuess you wonât be needing this, then!â - and backs away before asking if sheâs prepared to order.  Heâs blacker now; she can tell, but this isnât new.
âJessica.â When she turns, itâs with a questioning look - no furrowed brows, no wrinkles.  âYou arenât from around here, are you?â She hasnât left the country but she knows there are other places - Japan, in particular - where Toons are able to gain ownership of themselves.  But the United States has never been one of those places. Perhaps it is a law obsession; rules and regulations to try and keep things in check, regardless of whether they actually work or not, and when there are few breaches, itâs assumed the rules keep Toons in check, and people are patted on the back and the status quo kept.
She sighs. Â âI got used to them, after awhile. Â Iâm sure there are things in your life where you have done the same?â

In one timeline we kiss but the stars donât come down. In another you set a world on fire for me but I perish in the flames. Another and weâre strangers on a busy street, brushing by close enough to send each other reeling off balance but not stopping. Somewhere thereâs a final space where your hand on my face is the punchy climax to an epic saga, where the way our mouths meet takes the breath right out of peopleâs throats. One universe has us right, of all the millions stacked on millions. So itâs not this one. I can live with that. The world is full of wonders and a hundred years ago the moon was too much to dream of touching. Look how far weâve come. Turn over your shoulder and just look. Maybe weâll come across each other at the turning of the century, racing across the breaches between worlds. Iâll build my life on that maybe.

when the woman takes the seat beside her, stellaâs attention once again returns to the file and notepad that resides upon the bar top. eyes scanning the pages thoroughly for a moment until she seeâs just within her peripheral that the bartender has walked past without a single word of acknowledgement towards the newly arrived patron by her side. she glances up with brows somewhat furrowed and itâs then that the woman speaks once again causing stellaâs gaze to shift in her direction. to say that she was appalled would have indeed been an understatement and already the detective could feel her blood begin to boil - had they gone back to an age where descrimination remained so prominent? apparently that was something that would simply never change.              â donât be ridiculous - excuse me? â she turns towards the bartender this time, a single hand raised in order to gain his attention which she acquires immediately and as he takes the necessary steps in her direction, making certain that his eyes never once meets with the toons own, stella continues. â perhaps you would be so kind as to inform me the reasoning as to why you have yet to greet this woman or offer her a drink. is it because sheâs a woman? surely not since youâve been very attentive to myself and the other women accompanying this establishment. i gather itâs beause sheâs a toon then and in that case iâm just as offended. if you wish to maintain a very generous tip to which i would have provided to you prior to your astounding behavior in regards to my friend here, i suggest you dote on her appropriately from here on out, is that understood? â the bartender is taken aback, naturally and as his spine straighten his gaze shifts almost forcefully in jessicaâs direction while clearing his throat and managing a small smile, â my sincere apologies, miss. what can i get for you? â he asks, a slight bow in her direction as he does so.Â
âWater, please.â And a menu, although she does not say that.  Human food - real food - is still a luxury, as most vendors raise the prices where Toons are concerned and most Toons arenât paid enough to buy any even at the normal price.  Even when they do have the money, there are only so many restaurants willing to have Toon patrons at all - the higher the class, the fancier the building, the less likely they will be allowed in, and if they push, the results are often disastrous.
She could take advantage of this womanâs kindness.  That would at least assure the price wouldnât change drastically on her.  But, then, there would be consequences to that, too, ones all too common to her people and those who stand up for them on any basis, trouble she canât afford (and, blast the personality she was written with, doesnât want to cause the human next to her).
And the word friend still tightens her spine, makes her throat ache.
âThank you,â she says again after the bartender leaves, a mixture of black and brown in a looming brightness, âbut Iâd be careful.  People tend to not react well to Toon sympathizers.â This is an understatement - with the exception of children, the vast majority refused to acknowledge Toons as individual persons with personalities of their own, and everything that happened with Judge Doom had not helped that.  The fact that a Toon could masquerade as a human, could murder them without thinking, had not helped any grassroots rights activities, had only made the laws and the discrimination more rigid.
Toons were dangerous to humans. Â It was a well-accepted fact. Â Even when they werenât.
âThey will do better if they believe you own me.â A pause.  âMy owner is not enough in the public eye for any of them to be confused, and she wonât be bothered by it.â This is a lie; Eleanor will be bothered, even if her own eccentricities would be an easy enough explanation for the actions.  âEspecially if safety is a concern.â
Jessica is less murky now - ember traded in for something much softer in comparison, a smooth buttermilk almost white with worry and swirled with concern - no fear, only her own lingering discomfort (but this is a constant - she was uncomfortable before she stopped here).
a quick brush of fingers through the tresses of blonde hair - her mind focused on establishing inquiries that required importance before her attention is suddenly shifted by the sound of a deep and almost melodic voice. surprisingly enough, the chaotic noise that surrounded them had been somewhat soothing for the detective superintendent as she thought; it had always been a shift of preference in regards of wanting hustle and bustle in correlation to absolute quiet. tonight, she preferred the current atmosphere above the latter. still, that doesnât stop her from being somewhat taken aback by the womanâs words and even more so upon seeing her initially. in truth, it simply hadnât been what she was expecting - toons simply didnât seem to frequent such places very often. but her surprise is subtle and very quickly does she manage a small form of a smile as sheâs returning back to the reality of the world that resides outside her mind.               â no â iâm sorry, no. by all means. â she gestures slightly towards the stool beside her as she manages to shift her own just enough to give the woman some space. in truth, the entire concept of toons had always seemed to perplex her though she felt no reason as to why they shouldnât be treated as any other living individual.Â
      âThank you.â
For all intents and purposes, she should now feel relieved.  Her request, however small, has been accepted, and she is free to sit and rest.  But as she leans onto the stool - ever so careful not to lean too far, lest she upset - there is no change in her demeanor.  She has not regained power; she has simply decided with whom the power should lay.  (If she can not choose herself, then at least this blonde woman seems nice enough.)
Jessica smooths the front of her dress with one hand, eyes glancing again through the other patrons.  No Toons.  In fact, quite a few of the humans are watching them; she locks eyes with one for a moment and he seems equally a mix of blue (as to be expected), ember, and something bright and colorless.  This makes her murky by comparison, although if she looked, she would see strands of periwinkle and a mimicry of his ember.
But she doesnât look them over long, doesnât waste more time gauging the current and possible future reactions of the others in the restaurant (she was right - much better than an alleyway), yet still doesnât allow herself to relax.  (She is not human; she cannot relax until she is home.)
She also does not expect to be served, so when the workers proceed to ignore her, it isnât a bother. Â Better to be ignored than to be kicked out completely.
Which prompted her next statement, one that she is careful to say.
âIf that should change - for whatever reason - please let me know.       I would never want to be a source of discomfort.â

Jessica Headcanon 001: Â Â Â Jessica and Colors - A Cheat Sheet.
A Cheat Sheet:
Red -> Intensity Black -> Anger Pastel Pink -> Contentedness Yellow -> Happiness Orange -> Eagerness Neon Blue (flashing) -> Sexual attraction; sex in general Blue -> Desire Champagne -> Fear Gray/Grey -> Regret Buttermilk -> Worry Lavender -> Enduring and accepted emotional pain Celadon -> Hope Rose -> Sadness Ember -> Curiosity Brown -> Inability to Connect, Lack of Understanding (not misunderstanding) Dark Gold/Harvest Gold -> Affection Periwinkle -> Concern Unnamed Color -> Love Lime Green -> Pity Bright and Colorless -> Panic Olive -> Understanding Cerulean -> Longing
The brighter the color, the more pure the emotion. The darker the color, the more it is tainted by another color (one that is not necessarily noticeable).
A mix of two colors does not mean a mix of emotions.  Dark colors do not mean that thereâs a mix of anger in the emotion.  Emotion colors are distinct and separate.  (Orange is not necessarily a mix of red and yellow, although in this case it is.  Green is not a mixture of Blue and Yellow.)
Different shades can mean entirely different things.  Pastel Pink may have an entirely separate meaning from Hot Pink.
Most of these colors refer to their pure form (orâŚreally, something more like their Crayola form - which isnât pure, but itâs good for getting a general idea).

Bedelia had accepted the invitation to Hannibalâs latest party with no small amount of reticence, and the only reason that she had not denied him altogether was because it had not come from him, rather, from a colleague greatly in need of a human credential who had made every attempt to find himself a plus one and failed miserably. Though she was generally inclined to crush the vulnerable â to help progress the process of natural selection with a heavy and helpful heel â his was not traditional vulnerability. She could not help but fear that left alone and without a buffer, he might alienate the good doctor and disappear.Â
Such patterns had not escaped her watchful eye. It was peculiar, how shortly after appointments in which Hannibal complained about an individual (often in a passive aggressive and roundabout way, using her as a soundboard for ideas and lies and charming notions) they tended to turn up dead. Whether they were murdered or it was a staged accident or a strange suicide or simply and mysteriously absent made no matter. The common denominator was the same. Thus, were it not for her âfriendâ in need, she would not have come. She was ever careful to keep her personal life separate from Hannibalâs sphere â no small task in the limited upper echelons of Baltimore in which their invitations tended to overlap â and she had taken to accepting less and less invites and retreating more and more into her shell, appearing to be a veritable recluse by contrast. Though she was naturally introverted, she would never surrender to such complete isolation by choice. She enjoyed parties, took pleasure from wearing nice gowns and sweeping across dance floors in the arms of a competent man, and â to a degree â she enjoyed socialization. There was a certain joy to be found in mining the assembled ranks for interesting tidbits and fascinating perspectives. She shared that hobby with Hannibal. Â
Despite her attendance, she was careful to avoid partaking of any of the dishes. In Hannibalâs life â food seemed to hold utmost symbolic importance. She could only assume from the information available to her that it seemed that it was his way of exerting power over people, of drawing them under his influence. She would not partake of such communion. She was, as always, careful to avoid granting him privileges and access that he did not already have be nature of his pursuit of her services and his assistance in covering up the murder of Neal Frank. That was, far and away, more than enough. Her eyebrows quirked upward as Will Graham â a veritable fish out of water â wove his way through the crowd and approached her, an expression only intensified when he bows to kiss her hand in a facsimile of formal courtesy. His presence was surprising. From what Hannibal had told her of the profiler, she had no reason to think that the desire for friendship might be mutual enough to warrant an exchange of invitations.             âGood evening, Mister Graham.â The words are aloof and cool and followed by an interested tilt of her head as she scanned him â absorbing clothes and posture and expression and drawing the appropriate inferences that might lead her to understand why he had chosen to come ⌠and how much of that decision had been his own.                âI must admit â I am surprised to see you here.â
Willâs first response to this sort of thing in most situations would be to laugh - a nervous sort of chuckle, hands stuck in his pockets, the kind that would make no one feel better - least of all himself.  Somehow that seemed like it would be even more disastrous here, where everything and everyone was so reserved, refined.
So instead, he relaxes into a smile as he stepped back - close lipped but still somehow warm. Â His dark eyes wander the room, take in the dresses and clothes and sheer well manufactured look of the people, and his smile weakens a bit in discomfort.
âAdmittedly, I do feel out of place.       Itâs not really my kind of party.â
Which, of course, implies that he felt comfortable in any party, which isnât the case.  The larger the group, the louder the people, the harder it is to be...him.  But all this reservation feels like suppression, and for him, thatâs worse.
At least in bars and parties of the lower class, thereâs whiskey.
Heâd love two fingers of whiskey.
âIâm not sure how it measures up.â
He will likely leave tonight and stop by a pharmacy for bufferin or something to help him sleep. Â They say not to mix drugs and alcohol, but heâs gotten better at it over the past few months. Â Whatever keeps him sane.
[ dropped a few muses who donât get much use. Â activity will remain limited. Â not adding any new threads. ]
A gradual pace. âBend around hurting her. Her eyebrows raise, and her lips press into a thin line, amused and confused all at once. She tries to consider the possibilityâ for a moment, she pushes down the urge to incur its maybe. To step right in front of a car to see if it were true.
The thought leaves. She bids it farewell.
âI guess I shouldâve seen this place sooner. I might as well just move in, to be completely honest. Iâm a hazard.â
She shifts closer, very careful. Close enough to keep some small distance. She feels itâs needed, necessary. Alana knows that itâs closeness that screws the figurative pooch for her, as it were.
âIâm only a little nervous. Itâll pass. Unfortunately, I wish âdonât beâ was an option.â
âIâm not sure you can move in.  Humans donât live in ToonTown.â
Or, at least, none had in the decades sheâd lived there.  There certainly were no rules against it, so far as she can remember, it just simply wasnât done.  Isnât done, if the past is anything to go by.  (Given her own state of being, she is not quite so certain it is.)
Jessica Rabbit notes the closeness - more importantly, she notes the distance and is glad of it.  Not that she does not....  No, there are certain temptations in standing too close (not that she is, in particular, worried about that), certain expectations of it (she may be concerned on this end).
Perhaps it is simply the respect to her person that she enjoys where so many others - even while she has been in this human form - have had little to no respect for her or her desires at all. Â (She can name seven of the top of her head - two of them dead, one no longer in any position to make any moves even if he so desired it, one too old and too traumatized to be much of a contender, one somewhere in Japan, and the others...well.)
She stops in front of the bright red cartoon curtain on the other end of the tunnel (the sides of the tunnel have slowly been shifting from their brick and mortar to something of a more artistic design, the concrete beneath their feet turning from painted to paint).  âToonTown is just on the other side - there will be singing birds and flowers and probably the sun, if heâs in a good mood.  Itâll be really loud at first, but itâll quiet down...a bit.
âAre you ready?â
