Must watch. At minute 7 we meet a woman tricked into an appointment at a crisis pregnancy center, and it’s heartbreaking.Â
“CPCs often present themselves as medical clinics and offer medically inaccurate information on birth control and abortion. One particularly pernicious strategy they have been known to employ is to deceive visitors into believing they are abortion providers and delay women so long that they miss a window during which they can get to an actual doctor.”
- Crisis Pregnancy Center Ads are Back - And more Deceptive Than Ever, Talking Points Memo, July 21Â
Last time we checked, lying to women isn't medical care.Â
Crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) pose as legitimate reproductive health centers. They have a track record of outright lying to women and work to dissuade people from exercising the right to choose. They often advertise as if they provide abortion services, drawing people in by promising free reproductive health services, including free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and options counseling.

Women are being forced to travel huge distances for abortion care, while anti-choice crisis pregnancy centers are rapidly taking their place.

Gov. Rick Snyder of Michigan just signed a bill that provides $800,000 to fund crisis pregnancy centers that lie to women. UGH.

The Michigan Legislature just approved a budget that would give $800,000 DOLLARS to an anti-choice organization that helps crisis pregnancy centers and lies to women.Â

This page from the anti-choice group Online for Life shows how they want to advertise CPCs as if they provide abortion services. Their ads draw people in by promising free reproductive health services, including free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and options counseling.

We’ve gotten Google to take down deceptive ads from anti-choice crisis pregnancy centers! But we know our opponents will fight back. Thank Google for their actions so far and tell them to stand strong.
This sign seems harmless enough. But it's part of a scheme by an anti-choice crisis pregnancy center (CPC) to trick women seeking abortion services. Crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) pose as legitimate reproductive health centers. They have a track record of outright lying to women and work to dissuade people from exercising the right to choose.
Here's what happening: this particular CPC sits right next to a legitimate abortion clinic (called EMW). That's one way they cause confusion. Check out the "parking permit" gimmick. That's how the CPC is luring women to the parking lot and getting them to come inside for a parking permit. Once a woman goes into a CPC, an anti-choice volunteer may try to get the woman to miss her appointment or use shame or scare tactics to pressure the woman not to access abortion.
Sketchy and so wrong.
This is a REAL pamphlet given to a young person at a crisis pregnancy center. Â According to them, using a condom is "about as safe as hanging over a cliff with a frayed rope." Â

Awesome! A federal court struck down North Carolina’s “Choose Life” license plates. It’s unconstitutional to offer “Choose Life” license plates and not pro-choice ones.
Funding from these license plates was going to anti-choice crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) in North Carolina. Â This is definitely a huge victory.
