Exposing Ethan Kath

On Twitter, Peter Davis, the actor who played the doctor in the “Suffocation” music video, shared his experience while working on set. He points out that he and others on the crew were frightened by Ethan‘s “obsessive control over Alice”.  

A few days ago, I made a post about Ethan Kath’s obsession with images of battered women and young girls. That post can be found HERE. In an attempt to hide his sick obsession, Ethan has since deleted those photos from the CC Facebook page, but this is an obsession he has had since his time in Kill Cheerleader. Here, he and his band are standing over the grave of a fictional teenage cheerleader with a gravestone engraving stating “SHE TOUCHED US ALL”. In 2006, Ethan was 28-29 (reminder: he was born in December 1977), meaning that not only should he have known that this is inappropriate conduct for an adult, but also that for more than 10 years and well into his 30′s, this man has glorified violence against women in order to make a profit. Then again, when has Ethan ever acted according to his age? He is now nearly 40 and still preying on vulnerable, underage girls.

In his most recent statement, Ethan declared: “False allegations take away voice from true victims and that’s what saddens me most about all of this”, but let this serve as proof that Ethan has NEVER CARED ABOUT VICTIMS OF ABUSE. HE HIMSELF HAS VICTIMIZED MULTIPLE YOUNG WOMEN. This alone casts a shadow of doubt on the rest of his statement.  Lets not allow Ethan Kath to hide who he truly is. Alice Glass posted the following statement on October 30th, 2017:

She then followed with screenshots of an email exchange with her former manager, James Sandom, where they discuss a violent incident in which Ethan Kath throws her phone out of a car window, injuring her in the process: 

Sandom: “He can’t do shit like this. He’ll end up in jail. I will confront him face to face about it tomorrow - I’ve had enough of this shit.” 

Sandom: “It’s domestic abuse. And I fucking hate it.”  “If he doesn’t answer the question tomorrow with any honesty, I’ll be the one calling the cops. This is a domestic abuse charge, he would end up in a cell - I’m not into it, and can’t let it go on.”

The fact that multiple people knew this was happening and did nothing at the time to stop it is frankly disgusting. Instead of protecting the victim, protecting the tour was prioritized. Even more disgusting is that Ethan is most likely involved in trying to silence people to cover up his tracks. What a nightmare for Alice. I sincerely hope this finally puts the victim blaming and accusations that she was lying to rest.

As is common knowledge among fans, Ethan Kath has created various fake accounts and personas to message fans for manipulative purposes. He manipulated fan/friend Davie Fawn via a Facebook account under the name “Dan Marshall”. Davie Fawn’s full story can be found HERE, but in summary, he was manipulated by Ethan into lying to a young woman named Ari, who at the time was a friend of Alice’s who was posting the truth about how disgusting Ethan truly was on her Tumblr magicspe11s. Infuriated by this, Ethan began sending her hateful anonymous messages, while forcing Davie Fawn to reach out to her and convince her that the messages were actually coming from Jupiter and Alice. She fell for this, and despite being informed of the reality of the situation years later, she is still one of Ethan’s closest friends and occasional photographer for Crystal Castles. Here she is talking to Davie Fawn about Ethan’s fake personas:

“andy/dan are the same people. its all ethan”

“Andy” is a moderator on Crystal Castles official website who ensures that nothing negative about Ethan Kath is being posted there or on Tumblr. Various Tumblr users have opened up about having received messages from “Andy” via the wearecrystalcastles Tumblr, asking them to delete negative content about Ethan. Here is an example:

In reality, “Andy” does not exist and it is Ethan Kath himself. 

Recently, a former fan who used to run a fairly popular Tumblr dedicated to Crystal Castles shared her experience with “Dan Marshall”. 

In these messages, he pretends to be a “concerned fan” wondering if she has heard anything weird going on with the band (similar to what Ethan asked Davie Fawn in their final messages). 

He then pretends to ask “Andy” if she is able to be trusted with what he is about to tell her. Once “Andy” deems her trustworthy (”aww andy says “she’s the sweetest and coolest””), he goes on to tell her that “supporting the solo dj sets is supporting the end of cc”, in reference to Alice’s DJ sets. Here are the messages (notice the similarities in writing seen in Davie Fawn’s post and “Andy” above):

Notice the half truth and half lie here. Ethan and Alice definitely dated, but not only during the (II) era. This is Ethan’s way of hiding the reality of their relationship, which began when Alice was 15 and he was 25.

Ethan kath was playing DJ sets of his own during this time, but if Alice did the same it was because Jupiter was “pushing her to forget CC and become a DJ”. Hypocrisy at its finest. “meanwhile the only reason J knows A is because E remixed J’s band. thats truly fucked.” Ethan, your insecurity is showing. 

“but we can send a message that we’re not supporting his dj plan for her. we do this by never reposting anything dj related. that gives her false hope that she should continue with the dj path. like magicspe11s flying around to catch all the dj sets. that gives her a false idea that cc fans are ok with her being a dj”. 

This is Ethan’s way of not-so-subtly hinting that this person should stop posting content related to Alice’s DJ set’s so that they don’t get any promotion or attention and therefore fail. 

Bonus:

When informed that magicspe11s (Ari) asked her about “Dan Marshall”, he immediately orders her to not respond. Ari was already aware that “Dan Marshall” was Ethan, and if she responded she would find out that “Dan Marshall” was no “concerned fan”, but Ethan Kath himself.  

Another former fan who used to post Crystal Castles content on his Tumblr @wrathofwaldo was also messaged by Ethan using his “Dan Marshall” account with the exact same request.

Here are those messages:

Ethan was the one to begin spreading the narrative that Jupiter was tearing Crystal Castles apart over jealousy that Alice had finally moved on and was making more public appearances without him. He couldn’t bare to no longer have control over her. 

“i think there’s hope for IV but only when people stop going to these dj sets.” 

But they can continue going to his DJ sets? Ethan logic: that of a true narcissist. 

To convince Alice’s fans that they should stop promoting her DJ sets, Ethan fabricated the existence of a tweet that said she was telling her friends that she didn’t even like DJ sets, but the all powerful “Andy” was able to get some random sound guy to delete said tweet? Laughable!

“please don’t share this info but i think it would be helpful if you only blogged CC stuff (A+E) and ignored the solo stuff”

“Andy” strikes again! He deletes a thread that wasn’t even on Crystal Castles website, and even though “Dan” didn’t manage to get any screenshots, he manages to remember exactly what the supposed quote said. This is yet another fabrication by Ethan, created as a manipulation tactic to convince others that Jupiter was the one driving Alice away from CC and not his own abusive treatment of her for more than 10 years.

Autumn then bragged about having received messages from Ethan Kath on her tumblr account Katzekind but it was later deleted, setting a pattern that would continue to exist for the entirety of their relationship. Further, Alice Glass had stated Ethan Kath had restricted her access to social media accounts in her most recent statement. It is very possible that Ethan Kath is controlling what Autumn posts online, which is perhaps why she said “i wish i could show my real life” as the caption for the first picture she posted of the set of intimate photos of her and Ethan (picture 3) on her instagram, which she deleted minutes after.

Text: “ At the crystal castles show in Houston.. I noticed Edith did something Ethan didn’t like and snapped at her on stage. She looked scared, looked at him, said she was sorry and moved to the opposite side of the stage. There was a tension there and he was watching her all night. I said to myself ‘ya know I bet he is very difficult to work for.. and he is probably going to tear her ass up after the show for whatever she did’ and I bet the same feelings alice had, edith is now having. She looked scared. You could see the tension but even though Edith looked like in a state of temporary terror at the moment of whatever she did wrong .. she went off and did her own thing away from him.. over to the other end of the stage“

Ethan Kath has been on record saying the following:

Ethan Kath claimed that Alice Glass did not appear on Crystal Castles “best known songs” and lists Vietnam, Reckless, Year of Silence, 1991, & Good Time…he claims that these songs are more well known by Crystal Castles fans Alice Practice, Baptism, Celestica, Suffocation, Courtship Dating, Black Panther, Empathy Plague etc.; what numbers is he referring to? If the entire Crystal Castles fan base was surveyed and had to list their favorite/most memorable songs, would the majority list 1991 and Good Time over Alice Practice and Baptism? Does not seem likely.

Ethan Kath responded with the following statements:

Though it seems as if he is trying to “see through Alice Glass’ logic” here, this statement is actually written in a very manipulative way. Rather than directly refuting Alice Glass’ claims with figures and numbers, Ethan Kath responds by telling the readers ‘it can’t be both’; trying to paint Alice as someone that does not make sense and gas-lighting the readers to question Alice’s logic. It is interesting to note that right before he also claims in the interview that “I didn’t belittle her or make any derogatory comments, I was acknowledging what she had already said herself” even though his comments did attempt to belittle her and undermine her accomplishments; he is trying to get the readers to re-interpret Alice’s words. Gaslighting is a form of manipulation that seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a targeted group, hoping to make them question their own memory, perception, and sanity. Using persistent denial, misdirection, contradiction, and lying, it attempts to destabilize the target and delegitimize the target’s belief.

To be clear, it makes logical sense for Alice to have contributed almost all of the  lyrics and the majority of the vocal melodies to Crystal Castles despite feeling like she was in an artistically restrictive environment filled with emotional, physical and sexual abuse.

Ethan Kath also said the following in his response to Alice Glass: “I wished her the best because despite everything, I’ll always love her and sincerely want her to do well and be happy.“

It is a tactic of emotionally manipulative abusers to say something rude, degrading, or belittling (i.e. undermining Alice’s contributions to the band) followed by something overly-sweet & loving (i.e. I will always love her and sincerely want her to do well and be happy). This tactic is called intermittent reinforcement or hot & cold behavior.

“On top of other emotional abuse tactics, like gas lighting, narcissists/sociopaths/abusers give or withhold certain needs from their partner, granting them either randomly enough to develop an addiction in their partner or giving them in response to the exact behavior they want to see in their partner. Intermittent reinforcement creates a starvation within the being, which puts the person who is in charge of the reinforcing in a position of complete and absolute control.  You will always see intermittent reinforcement present in an abusive relationship..” 

Patterns of gaslighting and intermittent reinforcement from Ethan Kath are also highlighted in Alice Glass’ recent statement:

“But as is sometimes the case in abusive relationships, his cruelty was often  followed by kindness.“ “He kept me insecure and on edge, and  then would tell me that he was the only one it the world that believed in me. He told me it  was us against everyone, because everyone else thought I was a loser, a joke, a  talentless dancing clown. I believed him. I was suicidal for years.“

Ethan Kath also tried to paint Alice Glass as interchangeable and easily replaceable: Edith Frances, the new Crystal Castles singer, used to be a model in LA that went by Margo Frances. Though Edith did have some photoshoots where she adopted a more “edgy” look (see below)…

…her photoshoots actually have a wide range of “aesthetics” (which is unsurprising as she is a model). Also, in pretty much all of her photoshoots, she is blonde.

Despite being a model who is used to being photographed and who has many photographs available online, many images of Edith released by Crystal Castles don’t clearly show her face…a Reddit user even commented on it after Crystal Castles changed their Apple Music Photo to include Edith:

“I’m not exactly sure what Edith looks like. She keeps hiding behind hair, and glasses, and hats, even when I do see a full face shot of her it’s hard not to see Alice. I think she’s doing herself a disservice by hiding so much” -Reddit User

Because Edith i.e. Margo Frances was a model, she is clearly not camera shy. Why would she be hiding or not fully showing her face? The fact that Edith started to hide her face & become less active on social media after she started spending more time around Ethan follows a pattern that is seen with both Alice Glass and his current romantic partner & former Alice Glass cosplayer Autumn

It is interesting the compare the photos of Edith i.e. Margo Frances pre-Crystal Castles to her after she joined Crystal Castles. It really does seem as though Edith’s style has changed completely to more closely mirror Alice Glass. One of the most noticeable differences is Edith seemed to adpot Alice Glass’ signature haircut & dyed her hairs similar colors to Alice when she was still performing with Crystal Castles. It is also important to note that Ethan Kath met Alice Glass when she was in the 10th grade (Source: http://www.alice-glass.com/cc/); Ethan confirms this; he admitted in an interview that he met Alice Glass when she was just 14 years old.

Ethan Kath also started talking to his current romantic partner & former Alice Glass cosplayer, Autumn online when she was 15 years old (she is 21 years old now).
