HE’D BEEN AVOIDING THIS MOMENT FOR AS LONG AS WAS HUMANLY POSSIBLE ━━━ bouncing around the common room , the great hall , the edge of the forest . but the party was over now , and all of his things were high up in a tower , far away from the gryffindor common room . THE HEAD DORM . intimidating , to say the least . but what was really more intimidating ━━━ the idea of being head boy , or the idea of having to share said title with one lily evans . smoothing out his rather creased polo shirt , james sucked in a deep breath before pushing through the door to their common area , only to find the cushy room completely empty ( save for his suitcases which sat neatly outside his bedroom door , waiting to be unpacked ) . releasing the breath with a heavy sigh , the head boy took in the size of the room with a grin of satisfaction . with a large couch , two desks and a rather cosy looking fireplace , it really wasn’t too shabby . a shame he couldn’t be spending much time here .
WALKING SLOWLY TOWARDS THE FIREPLACE , ignoring the bags to his left as he did so , james took a seat on the couch opposite the warmth , stretching out his long legs onto the coffee table in front , his arms on the head of the couch . he was quite content just sitting here , watching the flames lick at the wood they stemmed from , and perhaps would’ve fallen asleep soon had it not been for the sound of the door opening up behind him . leaping up from his seat with a jolt , he turned towards the on-comer , offering the redhead a small , polite small as she stepped over the threshold . @evuhns
SHE DIDN’T BELONG THERE. that much lily evans knew. hell, the whole school knew. it was almost a cruel joke, one that she’d hoped would reach it’s inevitable end once start of term rolled around but seemingly whomever was hell bent on watching her heart break was determined to see the prank through. after all, how could a half par muggle born mess of a dim witch land such a title? surely there was someone more fit for the position. anyone in slytherin seemed to fit the bill quite nicely, what with their grand family trees and PURE intentions. but why her? those thoughts tackled at her self esteem, further twisting knots in the pit of her stomach as her bright green eyes studied the door leading into the head dorms. it was starting to get dark outside and what a horrid example it would have been should the HEAD GIRL be seen out past curfew, too frightened to even step into her sleeping quarters. so without trying to think over it too much, lily squared her shoulders and pushed through into the cozy common room with feigned confidence into the empty room.
as luck should have it, she wasn’t as alone as she’d hoped. surely she hadn’t forgotten about whom she’d have to carry the burden with. JAMES POTTER. to say the red head had mixed feelings about the matter was an understatement, in fact it was one of the few things she’d been quietly looking forward to. they didn’t exactly have the best track record, what with their previous run ins and the whole ‘annoying her into submission’ bit, they’d surely had a lot to work on but towards the end of last term, lily had witnessed a notable change in the boy she secretly quite enjoyed. FRIENDS... that was her ultimate goal, one she’d set about working towards since the shift in his attitude but she’d quickly gathered he had lost some if not all interest in her, even of the platonic capacity. so there in her most sullen moment, faced with the ultimate confrontation of her biggest fears coming to life was the one person she wanted to get close to most but whom wanted nothing to do with her, as evidenced by the taut smile he’d forcibly offered her. ❝ hi. um... settled in yet?❞
lily struggled to push down the onslaught of emotional tears that threatened to stream down her tears, forbidding herself to crumble in front of him. he’d done nothing wrong at all, he’d only heeded her warnings from years prior. if only she’d had half a mind to be a tad more tactful in the past, instead she laid the foundation for his untimely hatred and she now found herself with a partner that likely felt she was unfit for the job, most certainly because he’d have to spend time with someone that had been so heinous to him once. ❝would you like some hot chocolate?❞ the girl offered, scrambling for something to do to keep her hands occupied and mind on something other than her thoughts. she’d acknowledged her belongings but opted for walking towards the small bar cart loaded with assorted treats, a kind gesture on dumbledores behalf to welcome the new head students. ❝at last years meeting the head boy would always go on about these treats.. i suppose we should enjoy one on our first night if that’s alright with you? i wouldn’t want to keep you up if you’re too tired...❞
