evperreault:
Eve smiles thinly across the desk at Miss Pauling, running her hand over the top of the folder.
“It’s your file, Miss Pauling. And your contract. Let’s take a look, shall we?” Without pausing for her answer, Eve pulls the file closer to her and flips it open, shifting through stacks of paper. “If you’ll recall, when you were first hired, you should have gone through a mandatory physical and mental evaluation. Standard procedure, of course. According to your contract…”
She flips through, searching, until she finds the page she’s looking for. Eve pulls the paper out and places it on her desk, facing Miss Pauling. She taps gently on a small paragraph about halfway down the page.
“Administration is required to participate in mandatory evaluations once every employment year. I took mine before I was assigned to this base. Assuming your file is correct, it looks like you-” She flips half the file over, scanning a different page. After a moment, she clicks her tongue. “Well, it certainly seems like your previous Administrators were slacking.”
She sits there, feeling smaller by the second, as the Administrator reads off the clause in her contract. So this is how it feels, having technicalities and subsections and fine print of a contract used against you. Granted, she hadn’t suspected that the feeling was necessarily a positive one but… she’d much rather stick to being the one doing the contract reading.
Miss Pauling adjusts her glasses, nudging them further up the bridge of her nose. She’s not sure her previous Administrators were slacking, as Ms. Perreault put it, but they were considerably less worried about her evaluations than her current one.
A moment of silence between them, and Miss Pauling sighs. She realizes that there’s nothing she can say to the Administrator to change her mind. One of the things Miss Pauling admires about her most is her conviction- and this is certainly something Ms. Perreault will be sticking to her guns with.
“I understand. I-” she considers, “I’ll see the doctor as soon as my schedule permits.”
“Excellent.”
Eve gives Miss Pauling a thin smile and flips the file shut. There’s a hint of sincerity in her face, though- things are always easy with Miss Pauling, which she appreciates. The mercenaries always give them trouble with these kinds of things... which is why Miss Pauling is usually in charge of talking to them. Eve pushes the folder aside, to return to it’s storage room later.
She leans forward, then, her voice softening slightly.
“If you’ll recall, the questions are not overly invasive, and you are only required to answer them to the best of your ability. I understand the psychological assessment in not altogether pleasant and certainly not anyone’s favorite thing, but it will reflect positively on you to get it done. Besides,” She leans back, then, breaking eye contact with Miss Pauling to return to her paperwork. “You’ve seen Dr. Burfitt. The man is about a threatening as a kitten. You’ll be fine. Now, if there’s nothing else...?”
