There is something deeply terrifying about seeing the America of today and how they treat trans folks especially. It's a callback to the AIDS crisis under the Reagan administration and the failures of our society to care for massive tracts of people who desperately needed help.
The removal and attacking of trans healthcare by the same people who supported the creation of the AIDS crisis towards the LGBTQ community in the 80s, a crisis which we as a community are still recovering from, shows that while the faces perhaps changed, while the names behind it died off mostly or left the positions that allowed them to enable it, the mindsets and beliefs that allowed the AIDS crisis to become as large as it did are alive and well.
We as a community have a responsibility to ourselves, those who came before us, and those who come after us, to help steward the world towards a place that holds ideas such as homophobia, transphobia, and racism in contempt to the same level we as a society hold things such as murder. We as a community will not survive the onslaught if we allow ourselves to sink into apathy and spiraling thought processes that these vile people so desperately want us to fall into.
If you do not or can not do it for yourself, do it for those who will come next.
Happy Pride everyone. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
