It doesn’t look that exciting, but this linen is from the New Kingdom (ca. 1492–1473 B.C.)
Thinking about it for too long makes me feel absolutely insane.
The description on The Met includes the line ‘The cloth was repaired and laundered in ancient times’ and that also makes me feel light-headed.
It’s so beautiful and so simple and so so old
I’m making a 1/5000 scale model of the Harold E Holt radio communication station in Exmouth, WA for my dads birthday
progress so far:
Ive been up there a couple of times and it’s quite impressive. The coms station is transmits VLF (very low frequency) to talk to submarines far off the coast. I believe it’s co owned by the Australian navy and the americans.
Finished my 1895 walking skirt just in time for it not to be winter anymore!
ive started working on making a walking skirt using a pattern from 1895 to wear during the summer. I’m using the same pattern that Bernadette Banner used in this video:
I’m making mine out of a green linen (probably not the best fabric choice but it’s ridiculously hot in summer where I live)
I have never drafted a pattern before nor has my mum who normally helps with sewing projects soooo I’m kinda going in blind. Ive spent the last day or so drafting the skirt pattern
any advice would be extremely welcome as I have never attended any sewing classes and everything I know is mostly self taught
