WICKED

i used to remember all the smiles you gave me. all of them happy, slightly sad. i used to remember the laughs you laughed — head thrown back, eyes closed. i used to remember you - and now i don’t. (where are you, i’m searching my mind, my mind, my mind—)

where did you go? why did you go? we could have gone to the stars together, flown together —

instead you left. (you left me — but i don’t want to think about that.) why did you leave? did you run? your bare feet pounding on the sand? was it hard to leave?

my heart beats with words, its beats every minute— (did you hear? mrs. o’ smith got a dog. she named him dicky. you would have liked him). i want to talk to you, but i don’t know how. i want to sing, i want to dance, i want to laugh with you again. (i miss you, i miss you, i miss you—)

i don’t know how. i stutter, i freeze, i stare off into space. maybe that’s why you left—please come back. i’d do anything for you to come back. i’d change the way i talk, the way i dress, the way i smile—i’d change the world for you to come back. so please, please—i’m begging.
