it was half-past ten, and five-year-old OIKAWA TOORU was curled up in the sleeping bag next to you.

"i've never stayed up this late before," you whisper.

"neither have i," he replies. you're both not quite sure why you're speaking in such hushed tones, but there was something about the quietness of the night that demanded it.

it's a warm summer night, the two of you watching the stars from tooru's sister's old mesh tent. it's completely dark now, and there are cicadas chirping all around you, the faint bustling of night-life far in the distance.

tooru's captivated by the stars.

"look how pretty they are!! i wonder if we'll be able to see a planet. i've always wanted to live on jupiter."

you rub your eyes, struggling to keep awake. "what if there are already people living there?"

tooru gasps. "i hope there are! i read a book about this."

"wouldn't that be scary? having other people live there?"

"they're called extra-terrestrials," tooru explains, his voice laced with wonder. "i hope i get to meet them one day."

even though you don't really understand the word, and you're a little too sleepy to care, you nod. "i hope i get to meet them with you."
