The silence of 2019
Iâm not going to assume that I am important enough for you to have all be wondering where Iâve gotten to this week, but Iâve noticed that the annual uptick in notes has happened despite my absence. Donât worry Iâm still here, but this blog is sitting 2019 out for a few reasons.
The first one is personal and pretty simple, my university have been as kind as ever and Iâve only just finished my exams and Iâm a husk of a human being. The effort of making content right now really is really just too much, I need my sleeps.
The second is where things get a little subjective; some of you might remember that back in 2017 I said I wasnât excited about the contest; well spoiler itâs happened again. Iâve listened to the album about half a dozen times and if I am honest Iâm hearing white noise. There are maybe two or three songs which stand out for me but the rest of them just fade into the background. As far as Iâm concerned this has been a bad year. Just look at the quality of the first semifinal, MĂĽns even said it wasnât good. To be fair that which qualified was probably the right ones to go through but unlike so many previous years I am struggling to think of someone who deserved to go through but didnât because there wasnât enough space.
Finally, Israel. Donât worry Iâm not going to get wildly political here, but suffice it to say, my politics has issues with the government of Israel and many of their policies. So, ultimately having thought about it, while I wonât be boycotting watching the contest (whatâs one view in hundreds of millions?) it feels wrong to me to profit off, albeit in social media âinfluenceâ, a contest held in Israel.
The good news is I will be back next year (unless I finally get to go) because hopefully the music will be better and I can promise you my energy levels will be higher. Until then, enjoy the contest and enjoy the music.
