Yall remind me to tag the full critical role spoilers if I don't when I do my next rewatch, it has been requested of me and I do mean to try but I did maybe get in a habit with all those posts lmao
saw someone on twt being excited about this but would be anxious to do this myself so just for posterity, translate the fuck out of my fics. Preferably tag it as inspired by my fic if on ao3 or note somewhere the og link, but translate to your heart's content, I don't consider that stealing as long as you don't claim to have invented the story.
semi related, ive seen the way the HR fandom moves these days so, I have written fanfics of fanfics myself so go ahead on that stuff if you think it deviates and isn't just changing bits and pieces, and feel free to "finish" any fics I tag as abandoned just not through AI, and please don't try to "finish" works that I'm still working on because it would just massively tank my motivation to hear that is happening.
finished the ep as I was told dinner was ready so delayed final thoughts!
This cast really is a blessing, both the in game cast of the play and the cast of the show. Like, the players really are so talented and you can really tell how much theatre and art means to them all but LIAM!!!! And HAL!!! If Liam has said it, he doesn't need to, because my god Hal really is a love letter to art and what is art if not a love letter to life itself?
The cast being afraid is so fucking real, and I'm glad the dice decided not to give Hal too big a roll on convincing them to be brave because I think with all the themes and allegory that I "can't prove" exist in the show, I think it's that much more powerful that they're still scared. Everyone involved is terrified. But just like the theme of the play, it just takes enough of them to be brave to show the Rungjani they can be free, and that's enough to change the entire fucking world.
I think ep30 will maybe kill me but also I'm so fucking excited for it, will probably try to rewatch e29 starting Wednesday or earlier in preparation because clearly I take a very long time to watch when I don't feel bad about pausing and rambling, will definitely be working on fics in the meantime but idk about anything being ready for publishing yet so don't be waiting on that between now and then
I really love Brennan continuously throwing Vaelus's "belief" in her face up until now, like there really is a stomach drop when you realize the reason she's trying to reach out to Hannan specifically, even when it feels obvious from a story standpoint, like- She wants to find someone else who understands what it means to break away from the Sisters NOW. She knows that Hannan has all this baggage from being a druid pre shapers war and she knows to not press him to show her how to do this, but she's trying to find the other Sister that chose to betray the order. And it's for a reason Hannan would want to help with, she's trying to figure out what to do as she's losing her religion that's kept her afloat since she lost her entire family, and she can't make her own family now, and only the elves know what this specific kind of unending loss feels like.
And then when Hannan sees that and he lays it all out anyway... The way he doesn't mince his words or sugar coat it whatsoever really makes it sink in that she gets to hate her Mother for hurting her and it's okay to think the her Mother didn't love her, because nothing Sylandri ever did was *love* in his eyes, it was *contentment with only total control* over the elves. And the whole mention of honouring her journey is so important to me because it really does feel like a choice to hate and not believe in the love when it's a figure like that abusing you, and who would choose to hate their mother? Except Sylandri is only capital M Mother because of her entitlement.

When Brennan prompted Kattigan to follow Vaelus to Hannan, I got so fucking excited. Like I was like "MY RANDOM THIS WOULD BE SO COOL THING IS REAL" and then they didn't recognize each other. I'll admit I was disappointed but I still have a little smidgen of hope that MAYBE that was a lie they both told because Kattigan was excommunicated from the Circle of the Hunt or that they're just solitary enough that Hannan wouldn't recognize Kat.
I still maintain that if Kattigan were ever a full druid his Circle would be Circle of the Hunt either way, so I wonder what will happen if Kattigan survives the night of the play and he and Hannan are in Tintazi together overnight. Would be funny for Hannan to be like "I was here first" and Kattigan to be like "I live here dude, this is my home" and for Occtis at somepoint to be like "can confirm, his wolf and my fox hang out there all the time"
I assume this is the canon but at least to me this leaning in and whispering not to break the axe bit is Julien very bashfully being like "Okay but maybe I actually want that axe, that's a great marriage of convenience and I did promise my mom I'd do that eventually" and I love it SO much. Like "I will act like I hate it if anyone asks and I will never be able to use it myself because it's so fucking huge, but don't fumble this for me man please I promised my mom" "Sure... but does this make us friends?" "uhhh no. Temporary allies" is such a funny exchange to happen between fully grown adult veterans hours before this huge showdown.
So, meta/fireside spoilers in this one but I have had theories about Azune being a descendant of a dissenter of the Broken House of Memnari because of etymology notes on the wiki and his eyes, and his grandparents having to flee their homeland *during the shapers war*, and the audible similarity between Memnari and Memory, and the Memnari being one of the *Warrior* houses giving a new connotation to Azune's parents' speech about the world being dangerous and it being better if they have swords in their hands, but I think after this conversation it would be really interesting to see what happens if Harondus realizes before anyone else.
Like, I bet after this exchange Otto is gonna encourage Harondus to watch Azune's casting closely and investigate his family tree, so what if Harondus realizes something really important about Azune's sorcery first even through all the lies, even if he's not Memnari or a vassal of Memnari specifically? Like imagine all of the lies and careful scheming only for Harondus to have answers about his family.
On Murray's first voice crack to Demodus after this meeting, i start crying. When Demodus says "I want this one to be real, can you just write diploma on it and my name?" I SOB. Fuck you Brennan why did you make this kid only to send him away??? we better get so many Timmony visits for the cameos
Yeah that was a nat 20 scene, no notes. Sam and Whitney are just that fucking good.
Only thing that I *might've* done differently would've had to been decided sooner which is saying Kattigan also betrayed Teor once he got sober and realized they weren't actually looking for Teor's brother, because Teor asked about Talcydimir when he first went and Kattigan went to Hal alone and came into the Villa first to gauge if Wick could come home safely to try and clear Kattigan's name with the creed because he was with Hal and Thaisha and that feels really bad to let lie, but that probably would've introduced a roll into the equation if only because of Kattigan's nat 1, so this really was the nat 20 roleplay imo

Absolutely need to know what Demodus heard last night, what do you mean Bolaire is dead in his bed when Demodus is out in the living room waiting to be picked up by Murray and Azune? This only could've been brushed past because they had already been filming for probably 5 hours at this point. Did Demodus get to say goodbye to Bolaire first? Did he try and find Bolaire dead? This poor fucking kid had like 1 person to talk to for a week and then they killed themself with him in the apartment like damn, Bolaire, just tell her to meet you once the kid is gone
This is a bit more crack-y but, I like that the Curator of the Lloy wing made the Lloys a new son as a thank you present for their patronage
More seriously, I think there's a lot of interesting contrast and parallels between Hal and Azune's relationship and Thaisha and Occtis's. Like, I think there's a lot of parental instincts coming out in both of them because they both are in these situations where the "adults" have been around to kinda pick up the slack of the emotional burden of the things these "kids" have done and are doing for Thjazi, and really beautiful and loving and familial relationships have come out of it, and I love that, but I also think it's gonna be interesting to see more of stuff like the difference that Thaisha always having been involved in the dangerous stuff makes in their dynamics and the way both exemplify hugely why found family really can never replace the family that raised you.
Because like as much as they rely on each other's protection, Thaisha being in the thick of it really doesn't leave room for Thaisha to be the person Occtis goes to because Thjazi wanted Occtis to have *family* and a life *away* from war in the way it seems like Thjazi hoped Hal would be for Azune, and not that *she* should have to be or that *anyone* was asked to be that for Occtis, but all this talk about him being her family now because Primus sucks makes me think about how that doesn't ever get to have that same sheltering or even escapist connotation that Hal's relationship with Azune has and that makes me sad because like... Occtis is fully grown and will not grow older and he never got to have a *home* like the Lloy home with a family that welcomed and sheltered him in his youth and he likely never will. Even being so much younger than Azune and even with Azune being about 17 when the Rebellion ended, and "reborn into the family" or not, no matter how many "new moms and dads" he jokes about collecting, he'll never get that with *anyone*. That fucking sucks.
And all of this makes me think of how even with the protectiveness and Thjazi's request of Hal, Azune still really couldn't comprehend the idea that Hal's care for him *is* familial. Like when he broke down back in seekers arc and said those things about how Hal did "more" than what family does for each other and so Thjazi must've done something to make it *worthwhile*. And like, Azune watched his parents starve themselves to death for him, it's not like he's been given this impression that family doesn't sacrifice *greatly* for each other, like Occtis might've been, but it's really just the fact that Hal's sharing *his children's food* with Azune. The thing that Azune's parents *gave their lives* to provide him and his sister. Even with the protectiveness and sheltering and escapism of their dynamic, will Azune ever consider that familial or is he categorizing that as part of the role he's playing for Thjazi? In the back of Azune's mind, is it always gonna be part of Thjazi's scheme to station Azune in the city and so there had to be something that made being involved worth it to Hal? Is Hal caring for him always going to feel like a lie Azune is still telling and a command he's still following on Thjazi's behalf? And if Azune can get past any of that, would he want to be part of Thjazi's *family* family or would that possibly feel like a betrayal of his parents' sacrifice especially so soon after seeing his sister again? Is his relationship with Hal ever going to be Azune the Person's or always Azune the Thing's?
Like, at the end of the day, Azune *lost* his family, and Occtis *never had* one, and the odds are that neither of them will *really* be their families but they do have Hal and Thaisha and they're pretty darn great friends and chosen family
I need yall following my rewatches to know I literally fucking called it the same week we learned the paint was maybe the blood from the letter okay? I've been sitting on this since MAY 3RD and I'm so glad this was right!!!
All the parental panicking and confusion because Liam forgot Hal already sent his kid to safety is hilarious, they were really about to search the entire city all night if Brennan didn't make that bouquet there
Watching azune break a little bit every time someone says that Thjazi chose to die... And HAL saying it too, especially after their talk the night of the False Davinos Ball... Azune he maybe chose it but not just because of you!!! Because Mara couldn't cross over like she normally could so someone had to die!!! And he always knew that there was a possibility that no one could figure out a plan to save him!!!

I really pause a lot when I watch this because I cannot type and listen at the same time if you're wondering why it's taking me like 3 days to get through 3 hours lmao
And these convergence episodes are so fucking dense, we haven't gotten to the Shadia scene and the Stahlkeep and the Hannan and Vaelus scene, but I might have to call it soon because I've got a fucking gnarly headache and this glitch I'm getting when I post is a bitch (part of the pausing is also when I reported that to support and they are very lovely but patches take longer than a day π )
Whitney/Tyranny reaction to Wick punching Julien is ALL of our reactions
This was such a great character development moment for Wick, like- He was raised to LEAD, to SPEAK, to COMMAND RESPECT and those things aren't wrong. He can fucking do this and he's the best person for the job and this is exactly what he's been building himself up to do! To infiltrate the Creed and make it into something BETTER and to root out the bad in it, and he knows he's not gonna make it all different now but THIS MEETING he can do. He can HANDLE this and he FUCKING WILL whether you believe in him or not because he will do the Good thing, even if they won't thank him for it.
rb to add Kattigan saying "You should go, man, but I'm pretty sure they're gonna kill you, just being honest" and WICK SAYS "That's alright." LIKE FUCKING GROWTH from Wick. HE'LL FUCKING RISK HIS LIFE TO MAKE THE WORLD BETTER THANKS OR NO THANKS
second rb to add "No you dont" and "This is what Im important for" to Bolaire saying they need a plan to get Wick back if things go bad, like, he's ready to die for this if he has to.
