It couldn’t have been more than a month ago the twins had attended a small match of volleyball between two high schools, tagging along with their adoptive older brother. Frankly, it had been mostly boring; the rules seemed far too complicated, and all the players were huge…
Save for one in orange uniform, to whom the twins instantly took a liking from afar - after all, much like them, he seemed so tiny! And then, a move apparently called “Rolling thunder!” was everything needed for the twins to establish in their minds that this particular tiny player was the coolest thing ever!
Their attempts to recreate the move at home were greatly hindered by the fact that their mother was much against it, as it involved the twins throwing themselves onto the ground, face first, while shouting the name. An accident resulting in one of the twins nearly breaking an arm had been enough for anything relating to the coolest player ever being banned from the house, and though disheartened, the twins did not dare to resist - that is, until about a week after the ban, they saw the very person near a swing set. A quick glance around the playground confirmed that their mother was still at the store; another that though he was taller than them, the difference was not enough for him to be an adult or one of the high-school students; that meant he was safe to approach.
In unison they started running towards the boy, before Frederick started; “Rolling…” With that, both of them threw themselves onto the ground, only to jump back up a moment later, ending up no more than a few meters in front of him.
“Thunder!” Jonathan finished, not even noticing that he had acquired a fresh scrape on his chin. “You’re the coolest player ever, sir!”.
While Noya thrived in the spotlight that Karasuno’s volleyball matches provided them, he was used to the attention coming from either those his own age or those on opposing teams. Sure, children were always present at games, but their attentions were usually held by the bigger more powerful guys; by those with the most shattering sort of spikes or the powerful servers. And that was fine. Yuu was proud of his teammates, of those like Asahi receiving praise from spectators of their games. He deserved it.
While Liberos were important parts of any team, many of those who did not fully understand the rules of sport overlooked them– aside from a particularly drastic save, they tended to blend in a bit too easily with the speed of the game. Again, which was fine. He received more than enough praise from his own teammates and the like anyway.
Currently, Noya was leaning against the swing-set of a playground, finishing off an ice cream that he had purchased from the convenience store only a few minutes prior. Having a day to himself was still something to get used to; given how volleyball had a habit of taking over his life so and utterly completely. It was good feeling to have a break…. even if he had no idea what to do with it.
Before he could mull further on whether he should bother Asahi via his phone or simply go to his house, a childish shout caught his attention; familiar and yet foreign as golden eyes widened, snapping towards the children making their way towards him. The move they both pulled off - with a surprising amount of synchronicity, strongly resembled his own—
And it was! Yuu was stunned into a brief silence, having not expected his own move to be performed in front of him, especially in such a casual setting from two kids who were probably still in elementary if he had to guess. It didn’t take much longer for him to puff up, a sort of pride filling his veins from the praise before anything else. A hand scratched the back of his head with pretend embarrassment, a grin playing on his lips.
“Ah— you think so??” His voice was already excited; this was the best surprise that the day could throw at him. “Thanks!! Although I think you guys might of done ‘Rolling Thunder’ better than I ever had! You’d be monsters on the court!”
Of course, it didn’t take long for him to settle into a sort of excitable vibe; he loved kids. “Do you guys have names or what??”
