Determination

At seeing a smile on her face, Isaac couldn’t help but mirror hers, though with a much more childish grin. It was comfortable, perhaps because she wasn’t communicating with him through voice (and that he didn’t have to speak). Though blushing, it was more a happy one.

Glancing back at her books that had started their initial meeting, he asked her, “What books do you like?”

It was nice to see the boy ease up a little. He looked so tense before, Aylen was glad to see him more relaxed. She was the same now that it was easier to talk to him. She really enjoyed watching his hands, seeing if he would get the words right. It was impressive that he knew so much.

”All books.” she signed with excitement. If anything got her wound up it was books. 

At least he could understand that much. Though facing her full on was a little hard (eyes staring at him for too long made his heart pound uncomfortably), he still feebly tried to sign, “My name is Isaac. What is your name?”

Though, he was a little proud that he could still remember and a little smile fluttered about his lips, eyes eagerly waiting for her silent reply.

A smile reached across her face as she saw his hands continue to move. It was clear now that he wasn’t great with the language, but it meant a lot that he still tried. Normally people would quickly ditch trying to communicate with their hands so this was a real enjoyable change.

She was going far too fast, and he felt like freezing up, but he squinted with a rather panicked expression. She looked so relieved, but it was almost impossible for him to keep up.

“Sorry, I am not good at signing,” he managed to remember, even if it was a bit stiff. “I only know a little.”

Her hands froze.

“Ah, whoops i thought you might of been fluent...” she spoke slowly as she felt fairly embarrassed now.

He recognized that she was signing, and he had extremely limited knowledge of it, but he did know some…From reading a book when he was younger. If he could just remember most of it…

Nervously, he managed to steel his nerves enough to sign back, “I’m sorry. Please excuse me!” He really hoped what he signed was right; if it wasn’t, he would explode from embarrassment…

So he could sign, that was a relief. It’s always easier to talk to people that sign. The boys hands were a little sloppy, but she assumed it was because he was caught off guard. Knowing a lot of people there are a few whose quality of signing decreases when embarrassed.
