It’s quite busy despite the weather.

Only tourists, many different languages (German, Dutch, Asiatic language)

People take pictures, enjoy the view for a bit and move on. Nobody sits down.

weather: Sunny, around 18 °C

My normal bench was taken because it was so busy with people sitting and enjoying the sun.

Very many people just sat down to enjoy the sun.

The National monument is by far the most popular again, though there were also many people at the other monuments. But it looks like at the national monument people don’t mind that there are other people on the pictures. At the other monuments though, people want to be on the picture without anyone else on it.

At the cannon people quickly take a picture and then go on to something else. At the National monument people also kind of play with it. And at the Dugald Stewart Monument people take a picture, and then they have a look around to enjoy the view of the city.

Nearly nobody pays attention to the observatory.

Weather: rainy, cold, windy

I couldn’t make any pictures since my phone was out of battery.

Not many people

mainly tourists

not many people want to take selfies and pictures on the national monument because of the weather.

People walk around real quick, take some pictures and leave.

Some dog walkers. Mostly with throw sticks.

Many tourists, people starting to take pictures as soon as they arrive, even if the view is not good.

Weather: Between cloudy and sunny, some light rain some times.

Many tourists who arrive at Calton Hill (second picture) start to take picots immediately. Clearly they don’t know yet that if you get higher up, the view of the monuments will be better.

The cannon is especially popular among kids & young adults. Young adults just take pictures with it, but kids play with it.

Many people in front of and on the National monument again. 

Thought:

Hardly anybody reads the signs about what the monuments are about. Maybe something to think about for my coursework?

Tourists take many pictures, but it’s hard to take a picture together.

Maybe an installation that takes the pictures for the tourists?

The National monument is very popular, should I make it even more popular or shall I make something for another monument to make it more popular?

You can do cool stuff with the National monument, but since everybody is always climbing on the monument, the monument is hardly ever empty. This could give a problem for the intervention.

Do I need to do something with the monuments or can I add something to the view?

Getting busier during the observation. Men working on garden/cutting trees.

People enjoying the sun, sitting on bench.

People take more time to look around and explore the hill. Not only taking pictures, also walking around or people coming just to enjoy the sun

Man sitting down, takes a while to get his tripod out and right. Meets friend, go to the monument, taking pictures from the city and monument. Looks like one is instructing the other

2 kind of photographers, either very quick with iPhone, or taking the time with a real camera.

Bit more busy. 

Many tourists taking pictures. Mostly with smartphones. Guy taking pictures with camera and tripod. Sunset populair by photographers, with good cameras

Sun starting to go down

Weather was okay during the day

People take pictures and leave as soon as possible.

Date: 25/01/2016, 10:00-11.00 Weather: Clouds, incoming sun, very windy.

Not very busy, tourists (mostly asiatic), taking pictures, dog walkers throwing balls for their dogs to catch (mostly small dogs). 

National monument of Schotland most popular.
