Raven’s eyes sparkled at this. She cocked her head to the side and licked her lips. “I would love that,” she said, her voice much huskier than usual. Her blue eyes roamed over him, and she leaned in closer as he smacked her hind in, gasping slightly. “Please..” she whispered softly. Before he could respond, she stood back just a bit, and began to head outside.

Bring it |Ade + Xavier|​

Xavier had tried everything in his power not to take the flogger in his hand. He and the guard both seemed to know what would happen when he failed. One of them held him into place, the other man forced the device into his fist and the rest the magic would do.

The flogger hit the slave’s skin sharply, leaving a mark right away. It was the magic that urged his hands to punish but the strength he used… it was his own too. “Why, why the fuck would you say that?”, he frowned and felt like crying even. Being able to see and move broke his own destructive bubble, but this was not much better. Xavier brought the flogger down again, and again. “Fuck, please talk to me. Just say something” But he could not hear, could he? Once again, he was on his own. “I’m so sorry, man”  

Ade had nothing against him. In the end, they both found themselves in the same position. But he was not going to give the guards the satisfaction to see him cry or fall under that punishment. Hell no. He watched the guard who forced the flogger in Xavier’s hand and he gave them the strongest look he had in him. He may be human like, but he was an angel. A fallen one, but still an angel. And what he had faced, they couldn’t even comprehend. The first one was a surprise. He had felt pain before but that was just a little burn. Nothing. But the second hit the same exact spot, and then third one arrived and the fourth one.. He shouted: “Fuck you!” Looking at the guard, panting hard as the flogger was lowered again. His muscles tensed up but he never lowered his eyes. “Go on. There is no use for both of us to be punished. I can take it.”

Raven laughed at his actions, turning to him. She smirked a bit and cocked her head to the side, smiling lightly at him. “I would love another one,” she teased, her eyes shimmering slightly. She licked her lips, stepping closer to him. “That is, if you think you have it in you,” she teased, grinning widely at him, raising her eyebrows. “Show me what you got, Sir,” she purred, a glint sparkling in her eyes. 

Hell was real. Nothing that Clara had told him or any other person on that damned island had prepared him for that. But then again, why was he so surprised when in the end.. he was an angel... and one of the few that truly knew that hell was real. And now he was feeling it over his skin and he was aware of one thing only: that he could go through it. He just wished he had some clothes on. At least some. Instead, the sweat drooled over his tattooed body very slowly, traveling over some of his already visible bruises as his blue eyes looked up, straight in the eyes of the observer in front of him. He swallowed hard, grasping the chains, lifting his chin, as he was taught: you never surrender to darkness, you never give up, not even when darkness is all around you. Not even when it seems anything is falling apart. He could only murmur few words, with a shivering voice: “Bring it on.”

“You don’t look like you’re in hell”, Fae pointed out with a hint of a smile. There was no doubt that his appearance did not reflect what he really thought about this place. She would be baffled to find out that someone would choose this life. “That’s why I’m surprised I haven’t noticed you before” The blonde relaxed too as Evander closed his eyes. She had not been much better than the rest of them. Whether it was for the lack of drive, or to process her surroundings, it had taken her a little over a year to break out of her hibernation. “You could paint it however you like. It would be boring otherwise”, Fae returned matter-of-factly, but his comment had her thinking. She reached out to touch the revealed space with her fingers first. “Okay…”, she mused thoughtfully. “Do you trust me?” It took several minutes for her to come up with something suitable, and she took this time to observe him. Play or not, the girl took the task surprisingly seriously and wanted to come up with something that represented his character and that connected him to her. The rings of smoke he blew were the inspiration she needed. “Done”, she smiled eventually. “You probably can’t see it now, can you? I’ll tell you what it means at some point… If you like it, of course”

Raven cocked a brow. It wasn’t often that someone presented a challenge to her. But, she had to admit that she liked it. She licked her lips, and made her way over to him, but then she stopped. “Oh, you’re going to have to do a bit more convincing than that,” she teased, her eyes shimmering at him. Two could play at this game. She bit her lip, turning so that her backside was to him, giving it a seductive wiggle.

Her heartbeat finally normalized. Freya had to remind herself often that she was once able to run long distances without breaking a sweat; that there was a possibility that one day she would not have to run at all even. Yes, she had been on this island for this long.

“Usually I’m the one doing the surprises”, Fae admitted, but nodded as she squeezed the hand that was offered. The clearing was not far away and yet hidden from those who were on the main path. She had done very little exploring during her first year at the Institute, part of the reason she had not known about it. Her features relaxed visibly and she sat down to take in the grass. One thing she liked about the school was that she was able to experience the world as a human; kind of. The girl found it therapeutic to rediscover her senses, and because they were not nearly as sharp as those she had as a djinn, they were something like a reminder for her to focus on the bigger picture; the important things.

But Ade’s words made her pause. “There are no good Masters or Mistresses”, Fae said decisively. “Only ones who are less resourceful, maybe less ambitious than others” She said it as if it was a fact, said it in the same voice that she used to explain maths to her classmates. Ade gave her hope. Maybe he just said it in an attempt to keep her away from harm?

Freya noticed the word he used to describe his birth. She didn’t know what it meant precisely, only that humans normally did not use it. “I’d like that, yes”, she smiled and did not press on further. It was not important to her where he came from.

Pretty.

That word echoed in her mind for longer than others. Freya did not remember the last time someone used it to describe her. She did not disagree, but knew she wasn’t pretty in the traditional sense. Maybe he only said it to be nice, but it made her feel good, anyway. “I kept to myself, mostly. It took some time to arrive”, she admitted but then smiled once more as she looked back at Ade. “Or maybe I wasn’t pretty enough for you then”  

“I highly doubt that.” He replied without hesitation. “Maybe it’s my fault. When I arrived here I was taken aback by the sole existence of a place like this. I always thought I could never end up in hell and yet...” He shrugged, leaving the sentence there halfway before he turned around to throw a very meaningful look at her. “I really think we all close up in a shell when we arrive. For protection. And we gravitate around the ones we feel safe around. it’s survival instinct. Human thing possibly. But in the last days I’ve experienced a new kind of instinct. Lifted my head a bit.” He took out a pack of smokes and lit one, laying down over the grass and looked up at the sky. He felt the peace of that moment and closed his eyes, almost smiling around the cigarette. Then he slid his hand in his pocket and took out a pen and offered it to her. “While I don’t think I’d look good in a collar with flowers, maybe you’d like to draw something on me?” He said. “I think I have some space over my shoulders. I’d really like to see what you’d draw on me.” He opened his blue eyes and looked in hers, puffing out a ring of smoke and lifting his sleeve to uncover his shoulder. “You shouldn’t keep to yourself from now on.” He added. 

Her outcry was muffled by the hand that was placed over her mouth. Freya had anticipated both confrontation and concern. To be more precise, she had anticipated confrontation from the guards and concern from the slaves who have retained their intellectual autonomy. But she did not think that her actions had been so radical that they warranted… violence? Firstly, that was a naïve thought. Slaves had been hurt for far less. Secondly – more importantly – was this actually violence?  

Closure came quickly. After the initial shock passed and the blonde realized what happened, a smile crossed her face, even before he removed his hand, and even before he finished explaining. It was one of those rare, genuine smiles. Unknowingly, this man had given her the greatest gift: Hope.

One… Two.. Freya bolted before he finished the countdown, pulling him alongside her and finally letting him guide her to the spot that he had in mind. When they arrived, she laughed in such a carefree manner. Was this what freedom felt like? Maybe later she would come to find out that this was only the beginning. “I like you already. Over one year I have been watching this place and nobody has ever fallen out of line, not like this” Slaves often rebelled in their own ways. They tried to hide, tried to backtalk, and would always eventually be put back into their place. It wasn’t that they stopped trying, but rather that it broke them despite their attempts. “That could make you the most radical slave here, you know?”, Freya joked. “Do you have a name?”

She shot another grin at the other at the mention of her collar. “Thanks. Would you like your own?”

“The woods are the safest place here... not at night though... especially not during the fullmoon. But during the day they are all so busy wandering around the school that here is very... peaceful. Follow me, I’ll show you something.” Instinctively, Ade took her by the hand and guided her to a little clearing, where the grass was soft and the trees were covering whoever was there from curious glares. He smiled and helped her sit down, then sat next to her. “Ade. You can call me Ade.” He said, shaking her hand with a smile. “And it’s not that we are all good or too afraid... well, some are. But with a reason. There are some... Good masters and mistresses here, but then there are some who are particularly aware of the word mercy. So, for some it’s better to be under the radar and be silent and quiet.” But he chuckled at the word radical and laid down looking up at the sky and sighed. “I don’t know if that’s true. I just... didn’t want anything happen to you... I guess we can say I think we should all stick together? Watching over people is natural for me.. it was what I was created for.” He intentionally used the word created and not born. He took a deep breath and enjoyed that moment, that peaceful moment with her. “So you’ve been here one year? How come I’ve never noticed someone as pretty as you?” He said, chuckling.
