"Michael Eade: After the Burn" On view through June 5 @fougallery Curators: #XiaorongLiu, #XiaoZong An expression of delicacy, painted in tempera with gold & silver leaf, a slow intentional process. Landscapes of flora, budding from the ashes –rejuvenating, thriving, & sprouting with details in the outlines & colors. Each work meditating & reminding us of the cycles of life and death. "Each thing, or more specifically, each flower or leaf in this world is unique. William Blake once wrote, “to see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wild flower.”
There Be No Trace, @testotesto3 The artist presents us with a neon sculpture on video. The intensity of the light clouds our vision only partially revealing a withered rose, lights & candles. Perhaps a flash of light as a memory, nostalgia, LOVE or grief. Taking into account the weight of these past feelings & the unfortunate present. Love and loss go hand in hand, or so all the songs go. "Los Tecuanes De Nueva York" @theclemente • Archive, painting, installation & photo –precious & kitsch aesthetics documenting the Tecuane dance through an immigrant inter-generational family. Telling the story of good and evil, this dance is about the unity of families who defend their land. The history of the dance is vaguely recorded by oral histories, dancers, and all from individual regions of Mexico. In part Indigenous, Tecuani is nahuatl for jaguar, and part Catholic, this dance exemplifies the survival of tradition despite colonization. Presented here is a unique & personal archive that has kept tradition, that shows pride and practices collective work by a new generation. Catch their performances here @tecuanes_quetzalcoatl Curator @siblingbatwing Artists: @roybaizan @jas.pinturas #OdalysBurgoa #CatalinaLopez https://www.instagram.com/p/Cda4OBgLbjP7ZgLtCZLUQ20wU4qnhP-mkaF0mg0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#AdelitaHusniBey ’s "These Conditions" @veralistcenter Exploring historical pandemic protocols, from recent guidelines, 16th century containment of the plague in Alghero/Sardinia, and mutual aid protocols + PR0TEST employed at the height of the AIDS crisis. One film recounts essential workers meeting over zoom, processing trauma, stories, & healing. Performative sketches that expressed the relationship between pandemics & social change were presented. @house.of.platitudes • • • • • • • • • • We need to return to these basics, protocols that tie us, demand accountability for your community –education, mutual aid, collective bargaining. a set of regalia I made featuring the lords of death. On one side Mictecacihuatl swallows the dead, and on the other her partner Mictlantecuhtli rules. Behind it is painted with skulls and death glyphs. https://etsy.com/listing/1006291745/mexica-miquiztli-cihuayoyomitl-mexica?ref=shop_home_active_3&cns=1…
