The ‘it’s a luxury hobby’ argument is pathetic. For some of us it’s not a luxury, it’s a lifeline. I have DID, depression, anxiety, BPD and bulimia… and 5 recasts. Those dolls are my coping mechanism, my self expression, a reflection of my soul and pain. I’ll stroke their hair when I’m anxious, paint scars instead of scarring my own skin. It’s not a luxury any more than therapy is a luxury.

I have Borderline Personality Disorder, Persistent Depression Disorder and adult Attention Deficit Disorder. Social anxiety and regular anxiety.
ALL of my dolls are legit. ALL OF THEM. Five of which are artist dolls.
Don’t use your mental disabilities as an excuse. This IS a luxury hobby. If you use the hobby as a therapy then so be it. But if you have 5 recasts then you could have afforded at least 2-3 legit dolls.
I also want to add that using a hobby as therapy is not doing yourself any favors. I know from experience that with BPD you NEED real therapy. Yes art therapy is a thing but its to be used in junction with other types of therapy
On top of that, there are other dolls you can use to express yourself. Ones that are cheaper than BJD and that don’t include art theft. Monster High, Ever After High, Pullip, Blythe. A person doesn’t NEED a BJD to express their creativity or their soul and pain.
I am just so angry right now. Don’t use your mental disorders as a crutch or an excuse for art theft. Because there are people like me who have the same disorders who WORK HARD to get better. Who work hard to lead a normal life. who WORK HARD TO AFFORD LEGIT DOLLS.

Depression, anxiety, and anorexia. Plus a dash of hypothyroidism to make the mental issues just that much more fun to cope with through a haze of constant fatigue. My dolls are absolutely a therapeutic investment (in addition to regular medical care). Not only in form of artistic expression and focus, but doll meets are the only social activity I can force myself into. Every last one of my crew is legit. All of them. I may be sick, but that does not entitle me to hurt others for my own benefit. What is more, my therapy would not exist without the artists that create them to begin with. If I don’t support those artists, if I don’t stand against people that want to steal from them, I would not only be an entitled child, but a hypocrite.
Okay… I normally don’t chime in on these posts, but having someone use mental health disorders as an excuse to get recasts really really bothers me.
To find out why it bothers me, please continue under the cut!

Okay so I 100% second what people are saying. there are about 30-35 dolls in our house between three people. We have - Biopolar - anxiety - ADHD - PTSD - OCD -depression
That’s a super super sad excuse....
If you can’t afford it DON”T BUY THEM!! Plain and simple.
