In my mind, menma as a child is a pretty equal mix of kid naruto and threat of adult sasake ahaha he's a child with great strength and boundless energy, but he also lacks much social experience. the only people he interacts with are team taka and sasuke himself, who at this point in his life isn't in his best emotional state; he's overprotective, his suspicions are at it's peak, he's also melancholic and withdrawn. Team Taka also has no experience raising children, so he's a hyperactive child raised by a gang of adults who are forever vagrants with no social skills + overprotective parent who hides him from the world

menma doesn't know how to share, and he doesn't need to; he's interested in everything, but he's not allowed to do anything. He has so many questions that no one ever answers directly, or answers it so direct, that he can't fully understand what all that means. At the moment, his world is completely black and white. He'll grow up to be something more like sasuke mixed with kurama lmao truly the demon baby

as a child, boruto is more like naruto and younger sasuke. i haven't watched the boruto series, but I only know a rough outline of his character. In my eyes, he's a capable boy with unrealistic standards for himself, and he's also vaguely aware of what the village expects of him, he's naruto's son after all. unlike menma, he's allowed to do everything, but he only wants a little—his father's attention. also, unlike menma, boruto has the opportunity to see the world and people, to interact with them, and he has someone to rely on, so he's more emotionally balanced than menma., for the most part, he acts like the child he is, a child who wants attention. he's also a child who always feels like everything he does and has isn't enough, not in the sense of greed, but in the sense that there's always some missing piece to perfection, some missing effort, some missing talent—SOMETHING is always missing. while naruto is too busy trying to make the world perfect for them, boruto is left to his own devices, so he has a lot of time to worry about like everythinggggg

When he meets Sasuke and learns that he's his parent, and also learns about Menma's existence, his life and personality begin to change (I can't say for better or worse, it's just like a crisis that changes the direction of his character) everything he learns about the uchiha clan, his brother, Sasuke and Naruto's history... it kind of makes him grow up faster, you know? He's still resentful of Naruto, and blindly sides with Sasuke, not paying any attention to the fact that he left him and devoted himself entirely to his younger brother. He adopted Sasukes overprotectiveness and wariness of everything and everyone. He doesn't care about the world because his family is his responsibility, and his family becomes his responsibility, which he decides to take on. He grows up like just like Sasuke, and this is something that sasuke is actively trying to change in the future

Menma is cut off from society, not quite in the same way Naruto was cut off from it due to the village's rejection, but this gives them many similarities in their childhood behavior.
