Q: Looking back on the performance

A: I was able to perform well, I did it without mistakes. I was able to finish this with performance that is convincing even on the quality front. In that sense I’ve grown.

Q: You performed thoroughly, with care.

A: Of course, there’s also that I’ve listened to this piece thoroughly. The Ballade No.1 that I’m hoping to express––from the quiet to the simmering part that wells up––I performed with an eye on that. I was able to do each and every part with care.

Q: What were you conveying when you spread your arms after the performance?

A: Like, “well done.” It was my first time entering the second half 4T with a turn and (with the 3T) arms raised. Although it was a Salchow, “I did it that well. Look!”––I [gestured to] Brian with that feeling.

Q: A piece that is easy to skate to

A: A program where I am very clear on what I want to express. That moment, I am able to express ‘myself at that moment.’ It felt pleasant [skating] it.

Q: You got 112.72, rewriting the world’s historically highest score.

A: Javier got 101. I [skated] with “my best is 110″ in mind. At that point (2015 GPF), I had two quads in the first half. I’m doing something completely different now. “Naturally, the scores too would come”––I had such confidence.

Q: [Anything to be happy about?]

A: It’s the first competition, and [hereon] I must compete at this pace. I’ve gotten the world’s highest scores twice with this program. I skated with confidence.

Q: Your self-confidence has increased. 

A: Although I’m still just 22, considering my competitive career so far, I’ve done over 100 competitions. I would like to be facing tomorrow––facing this season––all the while remembering each and every one, recalling at what times I was able to bring good performances.
