the crazy thing about this place called “grocery store” is that you always need to go there. especially if you like, just went.
i definitely think minecraft won't be the game for everyone in the end and that's just how things are no problem but i do think *some* people who don't get the hype of it just need to play with their friends and build a house with them. its also for doing things like this.
.
whatever i guess nobody've read that so imma just drop the screenshots

This is not a particularly original thought (I've probably made this exact post before myself) but one of the bleaker vast cultural gulfs out there is and likely shall remain the one between 'material children can understand and engage with' and 'material guardians and gatekeepers are comfortable thinking about their children engaging with'.
The beautiful but brief period where video stores just threw every animated movie in the same section and vast numbers of parents just assumed all cartoons were for kids was a little golden age in this regard. We need to come up with a new way to trick middle class helicopter parents into letting their 7-year-olds watch Watership Down again.
I've mentioned this before, but the only time I've ever been concerned that a piece of media was potentially upsetting to children was a commercial. Otherwise, I assume kids can handle anything and it's only the parents who need to be catered to.
Books! A lot of books are still like this! You can easily find books, even targeted at children where people have fucking limbs ripped off and where deeply horrific topics are discussed. And it's so much easier for kids to get their hands on the stuff that is not targeted at them than with other types of media.
When His Dark Materials (which was not conceived as a MG/YA series, but got marketed as such) got a live action series adaption they went and made it all more "adult" and also had to cut out and tone down pretty much everything in it because between the things you can describe in a book with target audience around 12+ and the things you can show in a series aimed primarily at adults, but rated to let teenagers watch as well, there is such a vast fucking gulf it's unreal.
This also extends to manga, at least where I live. Like, a tweenaged kid could walk into a bookstore and buy something like Made in Abyss no problem.
I think that's why libraries are targets and book bans are such a trend now-- someone found the Book Loophole and is desperate to close it.
your best bet is prolly to just write the thing the way you want and let the reader be responsible for their own media literacy
People are going to hate you either way, it will be a lot easier to bear if its for the things you wanted to write.

"this post contains potentially mature content" and its... a dirty joke... a bloody scene from an action movie... tasteful nudity... sometimes none of these even... and of course a regular fully clothed transgender woman... i dont think i could ever hate christians enough
“I don’t put politics in my stories” is the literary equivalent of a cishet guy going “I don’t have pronouns”
Actually I have a lot to say about this and all of it has to do with that favorite fuck wit of mine, Andy weir.
So I've loved all of his works and a good chunk of the time the characters are incredibly progressive in all of their actions, they never say it, but they clearly are.
And then when PHM (project hail mary) gets super popular and has a movie and grabs the attention of a fuck load of leftists, he claims his works are non-political.
THE FUCK?!
No, cause how can you stand there and say, "here are all my characters, they all believe in climate change and they challenge those who don't, and also here are my characters thinking deeply about pronouns and the sciences of biological sex and also being super sensitive to other societies-"
BROTHER.
I don't know how to put it politely but things like that are in fact political.
Things like that are tossed around by politicians everyday!
Science wast always as sensitive or knowing as it is today and we are damn lucky it's fucking close to being about learning how things work even when we don't totally understand it.
It just bugs me how fucking deafened some folks can be and this occurs in any fucking book!
Like, homie, you can write all you want without the intention of being political but no matter what, it is. And it does have an impact.
RAAHHHHHH!!!
Not to mention the politics of all the world coming together to solve a problem AMD the politics inherent in giving one individual near-universal powers to do what she sees fit in order to Do What Needs To Be Done to fix this. Sorry bud but all of that is actually super political

my notifications are once again devolving into a spirited debate about the ethics of actions that could potentially make someone uncomfortable, and at risk of sounding like someone about to get a lot of irate anons I think we're frankly giving way too to much moral weight to hypothetical discomfort
the thing about discomfort is that it's an extremely nebulous category that can be triggered by virtually anything and that's far too broad a category to have any inherent moral quality to it. like. my mom was mad uncomfortable when I stopped shaving. that didn't mean I was doing violence against my mom it just meant she needed to get over herself. many such cases it must be said.
there's not a single example I could give that's better than this
it's such bs that the whole guilt-ridden stoic self-sacrificing martyr thing doesn't work outside of fiction. repressing all your emotions and neglecting your physical wellbeing should make you god's most tragically beautiful morally unassailable little soldier of righteousness but all it does is give you bad skin and gastrointestinal problems
like what do you MEAN the number 1 sexiest character trait of all time is just kind of offputting and bad for you in real life. next you'll tell me smoking has consequences other than looking like a mysterious badass
correct
I must not explain the joke. Explaining the joke is the joke-killer. I will face my followers who did not get the joke. I will permit them to pass over me and through me
you are making this so difficult
"you can jack off you can eat grapes all else banned" is kind of the post of the summer because literally wtf else are you supposed to do once it’s 30°C outside
I saw the skirt, got super excited, and was not disappointed

Thinking about a new bit where i start using “workers of the world” as my go-to second person plural pronoun. Like “chat”.
Workers of the world what do we think of this. Is it funny.
Workers of the world please like and reblog my post
Anyway I think more video game quests should make you uncomfortable and guilty and mislead you and corner you between a rock and a hard place and offer hollow victories. There's nothing more annoying than quest writing that scrambles to assure you that you're niceys and good and nothing you put your hand on can ever have negative consequences. "You cannot save everyone" and I cheer and whoop etc.
