the funny thing is, ernie doesn’t find draco malfoy as annoying as people may think. though his reactions to some things are pretty DRAMATIC at times - he can sympathise with the annoyance he feels towards potter, because at times ( though its not as strongly fuelled ) he also gets irked at  how the other is treated. like royalty. completely untouchable, it was almost as if people perceived him to be the next messiah. potter had come to this school and brought a lot of trouble with him, and sometimes, he wishes that the boy who lived would’ve just stayed blissfully unaware of his magic in the muggle world. ‘ you think? i think his father trying to sue hagrid was excessive, but, we all deserve to learn. harry isn’t the only student here. sometimes it doesn’t come across that way. ’ though she probably thought that ernie didn’t notice, he sensed her hesitance on the topic of unforgivable curses, the shift in her body language from calm to ALERT. of course, he didn’t know what her issues were, but with topics as dangerous as dark magic, ernie would just have to turn a blind eye. he didn’t know her well enough to intervene, and based on her reaction to his words, she didn’t think that he knew her well enough to intervene either. the familiar northern accent is heard from a mile away and  ernie’s grateful, by now he’s tired and h u n g r y, though her presence has been pleasant, he can only take so much socialising  with people he’s not comfortable with for one day. ‘ guess  we have. so, when d’ya want to do the essay, and where?  i could meet you in the library if you don’t want to come to the hufflepuff common rooms. the slytherin common rooms are too gothic for me, can’t get any work done in there.  ’

“That’s true. I mean it doesn’t exactly seem to be Harry’s fault but the teacher’s and still it’s really annoying sometimes.” She says with a shrug. Evelyn never minded Potter. I doubt that this blessing he was born into was something he actually enjoyed. Especially after the fourth year when he started acting more than strangely, being far too aggressive all the time. But even this wasn’t something that Eve cared for. She has her own life and didn’t want to waste it by thinking of people that simply didn’t matter to her. At his words she looked at him and furls her brows slightly. Did he invite her to the Huffle- puff common room just like that? His argument about why he didn’t want to go write the essay in the dungeons makes her smile. It was one she had heard so many times before. People were freaked out by the place where their common room is all the time. “I’m surprised you invite me to yours but I gladly take that offer. Never been to any other common room before. Would be interesting to see,” she admitted and looked back to to school for a moment. “I have time between class and dinner. I prefer to get everything done quickly to have free weekends. So when is the best time for you?” It is meant to sound nonchalant but she couldn’t hide the awkward excite- ment that lies in her voice. To be invited to another common room is for her an exciting thing. Not only because she never been to any but her own, but also because she is a Slytherin which is reason enough for other people not to invite her. Then again, she learnt about Ernie that he doesn’t seem to follow the prejudices as long as they are not validated.

‘ i suppose. contrary to popular belief, i actually don’t ‘ hate ’ anyone in this school. i barely know anyone enough to harbour such intense feelings towards them. i find people irritating, yeah. but doesn’t everyone? ’ his outburst is probably unexpected, he just doesn’t want to be seen as if he’s trying to victimise harry because of this  unvalidated hatred people think he has for the gryffindor. he just finds him irritating, same applies for the rest of the trio. it doesn’t mean he can’t sympathise with them sometimes, but it does mean that he’ll probably not see eye to eye  with them more often than not. quite simply, he shares her belief about living your own life and caring about yourself. it’s only when the trio get involved with his friends that he’s ever acted out against them anyways. picking up on her excitement, ernie cocks a brow. the  hufflepuff common room has never been a  place to ignite such a response from someone, unless she has a passion for food - which would explain a lot. the common rooms would probably be her idea of heaven if so, located directly besides the kitchens ; the smell of whatever’s on offer as of that day permeating in the main living area. ‘ well, i’m glad you’re losing your hufflepuff virginity to me, then. ’ he replies just as sarcastic as before, though the smile placed on his face is evidence enough of how his words aren’t meant to be  interpreted bitterly. ‘ uh - i’ve got potions straight after lunch, but then i’m free till dinner. you could just go to the common rooms and i’ll meet you in there? to get in all you’ve got to do is tap the barrel two from the bottom, in the middle of the second row to the rhythm of ‘helga hufflepuff’. just - be careful. if you do it wrong the barrell will tip over and drench you in vinegar. trust me, not a nice experience. ’

he’s never had an issue with the weasleys. sure, they may be rowdy - dominating the school in their masses, but out of the golden trio ron is the most favourable in his eyes; especially now he’s decided to drop the dead weight. ernie could almost congratulate him. it’s true, he’s never had an issue with the weasleys, but now seems about that time to add another family to the already lengthy list of people who have managed to get on the bad side of ernie macmillan. another one bites the dust.

it was a recurring stereotype that continued to slap him in the face as the years went by. belong to the house of yellow and black and you’re automatically mistaken for being SOFT and nothing more, as if there’s no room for somebody to be both soft and strong all at once. he’s been coined as outspoken, rude, dramatic –– and to that ernie asks, why can’t those qualities be that of a badger? why is is that he’s classed as unconventional? he’s also loyal and though it doesn’t seem like it, just. nobody said that he had to show those particular qualities to people who he didn’t care for, though. he doesn’t need to be liked by everyone to be considered an exemplar hufflepuff. ‘ plenty. i know where to place my please’s and thank you’s. for example: can you please stop talking when i’m quite clearly reading? thank you. ’
