fionna-mcqueen:
As Fionna moved closer to the rendezvous point she pulled her beanie down. It felt nerve wracking being back at the academy after she had already graduated. She was caught off guard when she was brought into a hug but it was definitely Erik. To her he had always smelt like cinnamon pinecones and she returned his hug. It was almost as if time stopped for her but Fionna had snapped out of it, her face flushing as Erik stepped back. “Hi Stabbington.” It had been barely audible, yet it felt as though Fionna yelled it. She held her hand up as a greeting anyway, pulling her beanie up with her free thumb. It was time to get back into her regular mojo. It’s not like she had anything to be nervous for anyway this was just a friendly hang out.
Fionna clasped the straps of her satchel backpack. She hop skipped to keep up with him as he begun to walk. “Are you in a bad mood right now?” She asked curiously, “didn’t have a great Christmas or a great New Years? I had someone send presents for you. Did you end up getting them?” Fionna asked worriedly, her blue eyes flicking to his face. “If you didn’t that’s totally- -” Fionna nearly face palmed, she was panicking again over nothing. “Forget it. I made sure to keep my phone charged. It’s the ultimate survival tool. Flashlight, compass, google maps. We should be good right? It would’ve been cool to go camping that’s something similar to what we’re doing?” Fionna focused on the trail in front of her. “If at any point I get exhausted you’re obligated to carry me some way or another. Just letting you know right now.” She teased.
Erik had been completely lost in thought when she struck the question. “What? Hold on,” he stopped walking and held his hand out to her arm to stop her as well. “You think I’m upset right now?” He grinned slightly, not sure if he should take this seriously or laugh it off. “That’s right,” he sighed. “I’m an idiot for forgetting to send you a thank you sooner. I did get them. And I loved them.” Erik pulled the blade she had gifted him from his back pocket without opening it and exposing the blade. “I take it everywhere I go.” He scratched the back of his neck as he thought. “I wasn’t sure what to do with the other part. I’ve- never had a girl give me a necklace before.” He smiled. “Christmas and New Years were fine to me.” He nodded and began to walk again. “And no, I am not in a bad mood. Right now I am very happy.”
“Camping is very alike, yes. Hiking is sort of like camping for the day, but then you get to eat actual meals and sleep in your own bed, so its a little better. Don’t worry Fionna. When you said you were a beginner I ruled out the cliff drop rock climbing parts,” he teased right back. He couldn’t help but laugh at her precautions. “Things like hiking and camping and fishing, they’re all sort of seen as the opposite of smart phones and boring days at work. People like to do these things to get away from all of that.” He nodded at her phone. “If you pull us up in google maps, its just going to show you that the nearest road is pretty far away.” He shrugged, smiling. “Besides, I promised we’d be back before dark. I um- “ Still have a curfew? “don’t want to wander around in the dark too much..” Without stopping Erik managed to pull the two bottles of water from his pack and hand one to her. It had been at least twenty minutes, and the first part of where Erik was headed was more than slightly up hill through the trees. “So, you’ve never camped before, either?” He pondered. “Couldn’t. . . . cars technically do that? Like, sleep and eat outside?” He wasn’t trying to make her sound silly, but that’s how it was coming out. He carried on quickly to terminate any tension. “I used to camp all the time. Travelers just take their “houses” with them.” Travelers was one of the best ways to put his old situation. Gypsies, Hobos, and traveling con-men sounded much much worse. So did clan. “There was room inside of the-” actual gypsy cart - “wagon we had. But I always chose to sleep outside under the stars. Did you know, with a bit of practice, you can sleep in a tree? Wolves can’t climb.” Yikes. What had he been talking about a minute before? He couldn’t remember. He drank some water and shifted his bag on his shoulders.
