“Why do we have this conversation again?”

“Because you’re obviously confused, Derek.”

Isaac gave Erica a condescending smile as he followed after her, his hand tugging at his scarf as he felt the immediate breath of heat slap his skin.

“Better to melt than to freeze.” He muttered under his breath.

Muttered as they were, Erica picked up on the words easily and she instantly felt a sharp pang to her chest. Damn Isaac’s father and what he had done to the sweet soul. It wasn’t right, and if the man was still alive, Erica didn’t doubt for one second she’d be seeking out vengeance for Isaac’s crushed spirits.

“Disappeared on me?”

“Good. That’s good Erica. You’re healing.”  He told her as he wiped her  hair out of her eyes and held her. No one was around to  see him being kinder to Erica than the others.

“On a good day, I’d say they’d dissect us, but today’s not a good day, so…” He trailed off, distracted as he ran his fingers through his hair.

“Don’t worry about it, we can take them. We have Scott.”

“Is that the sugarcoated version? Because I’m pretty sure it’s not supposed  to sound so scary,” she quipped, trying to go for sarcasm, but it only sounded weak. 

“I might have had a little too much…”
