hey! Still alive! Eremiteâs going through a revamp right now but Iâll be back soon!
Relief fell over Eremite like a wave. Thank the spirits she hadnât left because of a fight. His eye fell down to her and that was when he noticed her falling mood.
âAn Sloop trust telling you âbout me....â
Eremite hummed in thought before nodding. He quietly reached up to one of the birds-a blue jay- and, whether Fern would believe it or not, chirped to it. It happily hopped onto his hand and pecked at his claws a bit while he held that hand out to Fernwei.
âhold out arm. If Sloop trust Fern Cub with Eremite, Eremite will tell birds to trust Fern Cub.â
The Blue Jays were the biggest of the gossipers in the forest. If he got them used to her, than they would also be the first to tell Eremite when she stopped by. He liked the thought of that. Blue Jays for Fern Cub and Ravens for Sloop.
âhave other question too. How long Fern Cub know?â after a pause realizing how vague that sounded, Eremite used his free hand to pretty much gesture to himself. âHow long Fern Cub know about me?â
From time spent at the riverâs edge.
Lynn Canyon, Vancouver.
âForest Troll donât leave tribe.â he was quiet for a moment, avoiding her gaze, but then continued, âNot ushully...â
Eremite glanced down to her. The longer they had been walking the more he could see little twinges of Sloop in her actions. it was kinda cute he had to admit. But one question still bugged him.
âwhy Fern Cub leave?â
He meant no disrespect in the question, honestly. His case was pretty rare, so figuring out why someone would leave their tribe willingly was beyond his understanding.

They had been walking for a bit when Fernweiâs voice chimed up again. Eremiteâs heavy steps slowed to a stop while he thought about her words. That one eye glanced down at her in an almost wall-eyed and confused way while he thought of an answer. After an eternity of awkward silence, or so it felt to Eremite, the troll quietly crouched down, disturbing the birds only slightly, and held his hand out flat.Â
From his focused look, it could be figured he was trying to use her leg as a measuring stick. He moved his hand up and down a little while he tried to think, before coming to a stop at a height right above where the girlâs knees were.
âWas this size...â
His expression was hard and maybe even melancholy while he looked at his hand. It was then that one of the birds, a common sparrow, hopped off from Eremiteâs shoulder and onto said hand and chirped. Eremiteâs ears perked up and his face softened again as he stood back up to full height, gently brushing the sparrow with his other hand before it hopped back up to his shoulder.
Guess that answered her other question since after that he started walking again.
there was a pause as they continued on as he helped her up over a log, done in his usual grab you by the arm and lift you up over it like a ragdoll fashion, before he chimed in back to her:
âmy turn for question.â
Send me a đ˛ to give my muse a home-cooked meal. Bonus if you specify WHAT the meal is, of course!
Whether it was edible or not was (almost) unimportant compared to the amount of visible effort put into making the wad of who-knows-what. It was clear as day to that Eremite did not have to do any of this work in other instances with food, and yet he put in the extra care just for him!
Thinking little of the repercussions of what eating the Mystery Meat would do, he was more than happy to take the meal with a smile as bright as the sun itself, but not without reaching up and roughly musing about the trollâs head afterward. âYa shouldnât âave!â he beamed. He stopped to examine what now sat in the palm of his hand, then went still for a moment. â⌠What'ja put in it?â Though the pause perhaps betrayed him, he kept the question respectfully curious. There was no way around it; he needed to ask.
@eremiteoftheforest
It was brief, but for the moment Sloopâs hand ruffled through the trollâs hair if he paid close attention heâd notice that Eremite gladly angled his head down to make it easier to do just that. That rare and doofy smile returned during that brief moment and only faded when he straightened back up and tried to remember everything included in his gift.
âhmmm.â Eremite stood there a minute, staring up to the sky with his eye as if he could pluck his memories out of it.
after that pause the trollâs hands slowly rose and absentmindedly began to count while Eremiteâs face grew a bit more rough- including a thoughtful squint- until his ears perked back up. The Guardian looked back down to Sloop with a smile.
âdonât remember.â
eremiteoftheforest:
Eremite stared at the drawng for a moment longer before catching on that not only was the girl speaking, but she was also staring. He went from his crouch to a complete sit with a thump. He locked his eye with hers, staring right back. If it was a grumpy face she had been looking for, she easily found it while he looked her over as well. However it would seem it was more because of that scarring that kept one eyebrow in a furrowed position that attributed to his overall appearance. He tilted his head slightly when he caught her staring at his tusk, but overall didnât seem too annoyed by her interest.
âYou sayâŚ. name FernweiâŚ?â
He hoped he remembered what she had said her name was.
That solid thump brought the girl to again jump a little in surprise. She had not realized she was staring again until that quake snapped her out of her thoughts. She didnât even notice that he had started staring back until he sat down so abruptly.
Even after all that again Fernwei found herself getting almost lost in his face. Those bright eyes were taking in every detail like a sponge, so absorbed that when his head tilted, hers absently followed suit, like a reflection. Thankfully his voice snapped her back out of her thoughts with a blink, then a series of quick nods and righting her posture. âSloop calls me Fern. Like the plant.â Her lips curled into another tiny smile. âI donât think that was intentional of him, but he certainly finds it amusing.â
By now with Eremite calm, a small flock of birds of various color and size had slowly been flying down to and grouping up on the Trollâs shoulders. Most seemed at home there, as if they knew for a fact that was the safest place to be. Even more than that was the fact that the troll seemed to be just fine with it.
âFern...â Eremite slowly nodded his head in thought while one hand idly raised up to gently scratch one of the birdâs head. âmhm. Fern cub.â
A few birds took off when the troll rose back up to his feet, but soon returned after he shook and stretched a bit. Judging by her words, why else would she be here besides the thought that she had gotten lost along the way to Sloopâs home. He looked down to her, then motioned his head with a quick jerk to the side.
âfollow, Fern Cub... I show way through forest. Lead you to Trade path.â
He started to walk away before she could even think to remind him of her full name, and so it looked more and more like sheâd be stuck with that nickname for a while.
Though hesitant at first, once offered the scarf both hands approached to gingerly take it from the clawed mitt and bring it close to herself, somewhat balling up the cloth in her hands as she watched him. It was funny; Sloop said he was a grouchy looking feller, but here he was, smiling so fondly at that letter. It was sweet. An odd sight to behold, perhaps, but at this point she had grown used to much stranger.
âItâs an honor to finally meet you.â Even in her calmed tone cheer lingered about loud and clear, though still she was sure to speak mindfully. He knew common far better than others she could mention, but it still sounded limited. âI know he wanted to introduce us next time I was home, but I never expected us to cross paths by accident. Heâs going to be so surprised!â A light, twinkling laugh bounced her words as she pinched the rim of her glasses and lifted them away from her eyes to get a better look at him, specifically the carvings in his tusk and roots across his shoulders. Sloop mentioned he was different from other trolls, butâŚeven after all he said, he was still much different than she imaginedâŚ

A powerful but benevolent water spirit lives here.
I got goosebumps
I feel like Iâm about to find the final boss
The troll watched her movements and took a step back when she suddenly reached for something unseen. His head hung slightly to the side while the small paper was unfolded, only mildly aware of how closely he was now looming over her, and then perked up when she showed him the paper and poked at it. Slowly, unsure just what she was wanting him to do, he reached out followed by quickly snatching the page out of her hand. it was held relatively close to his face while he looked it over.
Eremiteâs one good eye squinted. That was him on the page. He lowered the page away from his face a bit and traced the drawing with his thumb once he fully registered in his head that it was even a drawing at all. ..... did he really look like that? He had seen another drawing of him previously, but this one was much different than....
He was only mildly listening to the small human while she asked this or that. He assumed she was asking his name, but his focus was on the page. Eremite was rather quiet until he heard her use that word. Guardian. He knew that word. He didnât quite know what it meant but it was his word. It made his ears twitch slightly when he heard it. Sloop gave him that word. If this little human knew that word than she really was Sloopâs cub. She was smiling at him. He didnât know how to react back. He glanced back down to the paper to avoid her eyes for a moment, before remembering the scarf in his hand.
He let out a huff, feeling guilt about taking it now that he knew this was Sloopâs cub- regardless of if she left Sloopâs tribe or not.
One could see the wheels turning a moment if you stared at Eremite closely enough, trying to decide what to focus on, before he just held out his hand for her to reclaim the scarf- his eye, however, never looking away from the drawing.
He didnât know what the feeling growing in his chest was exactly, but a faint smile was slowly forming on his face while he traced the drawing with his claw again. It was a drawing of Eremite. Sloop drew him. He had seen some of Sloopâs other drawings, and now he was looking at a drawing of himself.
âEremite...â he hummed and nodded. âI am Eremite.â
Eremite was looming over her by the time she hid beneath her own hair. He watched her cower for a time, taking in heavy breaths while he held back his anger long enough to hear her reply.
The scarf remained tight in his hand as Eremite hunkered down to all fours to get a closer look at her. while she shook he gave her another sniff over. it was faint- incredibly faint in fact- but he could smell Sloop on her. He snuffed, anger fading but still present, before holding the scarf out for her to see. He wouldnât give it back until he knew if she was lying or telling the truth.
âMudmanâŚ. SloopâŚâ He was having a hard time articulating his words now but he was doing his best. It wasnât often he actually said his name. âSloop give? Give to you?â
She was still as stone with eyes locked open. It was a struggle to hide whatever she could of her fright, but the sheer shock of the moment made it near impossible to stop it now. She fought to stay where she sat and not put space between her and the troll, though watched for any signs of aggression in his every move.
Then he mentioned that name. That name coupled with the âtitleâ he had unintentionally earned.
As though all worries melted away, a gawk revealed itself from the curtain of hair that gingerly parted away.
âYouâve met?â At first her voice was soft, but soon enough it piped up with a delighted smile. âYes! Yes he did! Before I left! Heâs my caretaker!â Suddenly the girl was full of life and eagerness. It was as though she never feared him to begin with, enough where she even leaned a touch closer with a newfound, rich fascination. âWas he here recently? Is he well?â Questions practically spilled from the girl. She hadnât seen him in so long, she could not help but ask!
Her excitement was met with a confused gawk for a moment. Sloop never mentioned a cub to Eremite before. Ever. But the use of that âcareâ word he only half understood and her lack of fear pointed towards that conclusion. As he watched her questions come spewing out he recognized that excitement anywhere. She was asking them too quickly to be honest- also a trait he noticed in Sloop.
Eremite crouched down and reached out with his other hand to press a finger over her mouth to shush her. They sat there is silence a moment while he looked her over before finally answering and giving a few questions of his own.
âSloop visit often. Sloop also healthy. You Sloop Cub. Why Sloop not look for you? Why Sloop not tell Eremite Sloop had cub?â
The majority of that sounded like a big broken mess, probably, but it was the only way he could think to word it to have her understand.
Well, now that itâs officially reaching triple digits here, Iâm gunna be cutting Demiâs hair in the next week or so~

Eremite loves when Summer is coming close since it means Demi will soon be trimming her hair again. It means that one day of the year before she undergoes that task she allows him to braid and decorate to his heartâs content. If anyone saw Demi before getting her hair trimmed, theyâd wonder where she got war paints and such tight braids, but she usually just smiles and waves while continuing on her way- seeing Eremiteâs excitement every year when she finally gives him the âall clearâ is more than reason enough to let him do it every year even though she clearly doesnât have a tribe to impress or intimidate with such a display

League:
Before she can even talk him out of it more often than not Ferwei will suddenly find herself either being tossed on Eremiteâs back and expected to hang on while he takes her somewhere, or to her surprise cradled in his arms like a small child or stuffed animal. He wont tell her why he carries her like that, but after a while she just gets used to it.Â
Trollhunters:
Fernwei doesnât fear long night walks in the Forest of Eremite, unlike so many other places, she can trust the Guardian is always close and ready to warn danger off or face it for her. Though itâs not hard for most dangers to keep their distance when you literally have the forestâs soul walking alongside you.
