Upstream Color - Behind the Scenes (Pigs)
Hi, do you know anything about this new film John Doe? Apparently Shane is in it. Twitter handle for the film is @johndoefilm.
I did not! It seems like it was just announced. Looks like itâs an actual feature though - would be great if Shane is a lead.
(a little late on this, but)
The Shane Carruth directed episode of National Geographicâs âBreakthroughâ on Predicting the Future has aired and is now available!

I've found the unproduced script for A Topiary, but is there any way to view the Upstream Color screenplay? I'm working on a project on writers who are challenging the traditional form of the screenplay. Any advice would be great, thanks! P.S. Love the site.
I donât think it exists. Shane isnât a huge fan of the AT script leak, so actors for Upstream Color only received portions of the script related to the scenes they were in, and he worked really hard to keep it under wraps.
Same reason only two behind the scenes photos exist.

Merry Christmas No. II:
The Directorâs Commentary from the Primer DVD, lovingly ripped by a follower. Iâm away from home right now, but at some point in the near future Iâll also upload the Cast/Crew Commentary which is a lot of fun.
Hereâs to 2017 and hopefully some Modern Ocean news!
As a gift to you followers: The unproduced masterpiece A Topiary, which you can read here.

âNational Geographic Channel announced today the greenlight of a second season of the critically acclaimed global series BREAKTHROUGH.
The anthology series will once again shine a light on the worldâs leading scientists and how their cutting-edge innovations and advancements will change our lives in the immediate future and beyond. The series brings to life the stories, people and technology behind these breakthroughs, and shows how they are changing our world. Season one was hailed by critics as âambitious,â âinnovative,â âinspiringâ and âfascinating.â Season two will continue the tradition of tackling thought-provoking topics â including addiction, cyberterror, drones, cancer, big data and energy â with unique scientific perspective.
Season two of BREAKTHROUGH will once again feature a diverse lineup of talented directors, who will turn their lenses toward the frontiers of science, technology and engineering to examine scientific discoveries and explore the courage, imagination, passion and self-sacrifice of the scientists bringing these innovations to life:
Iranian-American writer/director Ana Lily Amirpour (âA Girl Walks Home Alone at Nightâ) delves into breakthrough T-cell immunotherapy in the treatment of cancer.
Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize winner Shane Carruth (âPrimer,â âUpstream Colorâ) takes on advancements in big data and artificial intelligence.
Texas filmmaker David Lowery (âPeteâs Dragon,â âAinât Them Bodies Saintsâ), another Sundance winner, explores the use of psychedelic drugs to treat addictions.
Eco-advocate filmmaker Shalini Kantayya (âCatching the Sunâ), a top 10 finalist on Steven Spielbergâs âOn the Lot,â uncovers innovative energy technology that will bring electricity to remote locations and help rewire America.
The Malloy brothers (âUnder the Great White Northern Lights,â âTribes of Palos Verdesâ) examine the promise and threat posed by swarms of small commercial drones.
Critically acclaimed music video and promo spots director A.G. Rojas (âRun the Jewels,â âClose Your Eyesâ) investigates the principles, tactics, technologies and consequences behind the high-stakes world of cyberterrorism.

If youâre missing Shane Carruth, and arenât watching Mr. Robot, youâre doing it wrong.
Itâs like if they handed him a television show with complete creative control right after making Primer.Â
Ex Machina
Ex Machina is my favorite science fiction film since Primer. Very very similar in language and tone, canât recommend it enough -Â
also recommend going into it fairly blind, all of the advertising is pretty bad (which is why itâs taken me so long to get around to it.)
Check it out!
