Finally watching Upstream Color, and I have to say, 20 minutes in I think that Shane Carruth seriously misunderstood the principles of Save the Cat!

SUBLIME CINEMA #323 - UPSTREAM COLOR
Shane Carruth has earned his independence as a filmmaker by simply not giving a shit about what anybody thinks and only choosing to work outside of the regular system, even if it is sparingly (by all accounts he has a day job, and a life, and takes on side work like writing the score for the Girlfriend Experience). His few directed movies are minimalist, beautiful, smart and travel to daring, unexpected places.
