Last year, Elon Musk donated approximately $1.95 billion in Tesla stock.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk gave $1.95 billion in Tesla stock to charity last year, according to a filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Tuesday.
According to the filing, Musk donated approximately 11.6 million shares between August and December of last year, but did not specify which organization or organizations were the recipients.
The world's second-richest individual now owns approximately 13% of Tesla.
Tesla did not respond immediately to an email requesting information on which charity or charities received the donations. In 2021, Musk will donate approximately $5.74 billion.
Analysts believe Musk would benefit from donating Tesla stock to charity because shares donated to charities do not have to pay capital gains tax, as they would if sold.
Musk signed the Giving Pledge in 2012, pledging to donate at least half of his fortune to charity during his lifetime or after his death.
