Views of the Acropolis in different days and weather conditions, from various corners of Athens.

1. Propileya and western front of the Parthenon shot from the Philopappou hill, on the south-western side of the Acropolis. Around 11-12 a.m.

During my visit to the Acropolis I had the chance to take a close look to the undergoing restoration of the Cella and Perystilium of the Parthenon. The recently dug and carved pentelikon marble blocks generate a sharp contrast with the millennial old drums and entablatures of the temple, but in a few years they will acquire that marvelous sun-caressed tone. The restoration projects mainly aims to rebuild the wall of the Naos and the southern side of the temple, destroyed and left in ruins since 1687, when the temple was used by the Ottomans as a gunpowder magazine and heavily damaged by the venetian fleet's shell bombings, fired while trying to capture the city.
