LOVE this thought. It really is true the United States has really has the upper hand because of simply how large and naturally diverse the land is. It also reminds me of that meme that's like "the American empire is OVER!". 20 minutes later: *random farmer in Idaho finds a never ending supply of a critically needed natural resource*
Anyway back to the first point. The "perfect amalgamation" is exactly where my mind goes when I am writing America. The best and worst parts of Arthur and Francis in one man.

During the rev war, Francis focused a lot on teaching Alfred personal skills that are helpful off the battle field. Alfred learned the basic on how to manipulate and coerce others into doing what you want. All while never letting the smile fall from his face. And over the years, he has refined the skills so that he gives off warm, comforting, and trustworthy when he manipulates others (be It human or nation). Honestly, it is one of Alfred's cruelest skills. Yet while France uses (or attempts to use) manipulation often, Alfred uses so rarely that it's a secrete weapon.
Arthur really broke parts of Alfreds brain with his "education". Coming from such an unstable and hectic background where he was always in fight or flight mode for his youth, Arthur comes into parenthood with this idea he wants to prepare Alfred for nationhood so he is ahead of the game and nothing comes as a surprise. Alfred is able, for better or worse, to shut off emotions/feelings towards someone he cares about so that he can "do what needs to be done" (thus gaining or protecting his power), directly comes from Arthur. Both Arthurs nature and nature.
However
Arthur has zero experience in actually parenting or raising a baby nation. None at all. He does not understand just how malleable they are.
Arthur has a really fucked up idea of how to actually go about "preparing" Alfred for the reality's of nationhood. It was to much, and yet, not enough. To this day, it still doses not click in his mind that he did anything wrong. Sure, it was tough love. But it helped, didn't it? All while Alfred hasn't been able to develop a healthy emotional bond with anyone since he was 12.
He does not understand that holding Alfred back and forcing him to watch Jamestown burn in 1676 was majorly traumatizing and seriously permanently changed his brain chemistry.
And Matthew? oof, maybe someday they will invest a strain of weed that unlocks his youth trauma. He has it buried just enough to see it poke through.
