[He walks into the room and pulls off his satchel bag, sitting in one of the provided armchairs and scrolling through an article on his phone while he waits for the volunteer to arrive]
@epsilon-dicere
[They enter the room a few minutes later, looking apologetic]
im sorry im late, i lost track of time- i hope i didnt keep you waiting for too long?
[He looks up as they enter, dimming his phone screen and standing as the door locks automatically behind them]
It's fine, I arrived early.
[His tail sways behind him]
I'll be honest, this is the first time I've had to do something like this.
oh, me too... i mean, i tried looking online for a sort of guide, but nothing came up... i guess we'll just have to wing it, heh..
[They collapse dramatically into one of the chairs, placing their bag on their lap]
[He sits back in his chair but doesn't relax]
That would be because different d(a)emons have different needs. I don't doubt that this volunteer program was thrown together hastily with the influx of d(a)emon students like myself.
yeah, there was like... no onboarding for any of this. i just signed a form and the rest was history, no kind of explanation of what to do or anything... i guess the people who put it together assumed you'd just sit and feed and then be done with it. just goes to show that the system here sucks...
... you seem kind of tense..?
[He huffs a sigh and shakes his head]
There has to be some kind of system for assigning. I know every demon at the school doesn't need the volunteer feeding program, but still.
[He unlocks his phone and jots down a note as a text message to Star.
He's a bit startled by their observation of him being tense. He turns his attention to regulating his outward appearance to seem a bit more relaxed]
Ah, I've been told I can come off as intimidating, I suppose trying not to be is what's causing that.
[He can sense emotion wafting off them that would be more than perfect for any concubus.]
Is there any particular emotion you're feeling that you'd like to be alleviated of or...?
hard agree
[They narrow their eyes slightly as they watch him type on his phone, but quickly returns to their neutral expression when he looks up] well, you dont come across intimidating to me [A small smile. A "peace offering"] mmm... i have been feeling a bit stressed lately. school's been a little hard to settle into again...
[He nods and considers their words]
Well, stress manifests differently for everyone. For some, it's anxiety or rage. Others, it spirals them into depression.
Are you able to identify what's been making it hard to settle?
oh, just the pressure from my family that i have to do well academically so i can get into a good college. yknow, nothing serious.
[They're obviously being sarcastic, and there's a hint of irritation as they speak... but also some deceit. Maybe they're not telling the full truth..?]
Sure.
[He speaks and nods slowly]
I can understand why you're turning to volunteer feeding. Are you a Senior too?
mhm! hence the pressure about college. if im being completely honest, i dont really know which school i want to go to after this, but im pretending like i have something in mind so i can keep my family off of my back...
[Without any outward indication, he starts siphoning off the frustration they feel]
They won't allow you to go for General Education and change majors when you settle on a subject you want to pursue professionally?
they think i have to have everything all figured out before i graduate; theyve been nagging at me about it for years. as i said, i dont know which school i want to attend or even what id want to major in. maaaybe something art related..? but im really just not sure.
[They're frustrated just thinking about the situation]
[He pauses and thinks for a moment, unlocks his phone again, and jots down another note]
That seems counterintuitive to human nature. No one has just a single purpose. Not even a specialized d(a)emon.
[They raise their eyebrow at his note-taking, clearly curious about it]
yeah, thats how i feel about it. and id like to think im a more "go with the flow" kind of person, instead of a devout planner or control freak or whatever.
... you keep messing with your phone..? are you taking notes or something?
I'm afraid I'm personally a planner, so I can't empathize, but I do sympathize.
I am. Just jotting down mock debate ideas to send to my co-captain. Taking it down when I'm thinking about it allows me to keep my focus current.
ah. what ideas have you had so far, if you dont mind me asking?
[They seem to almost prickle at the mention of the co-captain, but it was so faint and short-lived it's unclear if it even happened at all]
[He shrugs]
When classic literature should be classified as such, volunteer feeding processes, children being expected to make huge life decisions at young ages, and a few other i've thought of throughout the day.
aww, i get to serve as a little point of inspiration for you?
[They almost sound like they're proud of themself]
hm. speaking of, i dont think ive seen much of the co-captain. what are they like?
[That almost prickly feeling is back, blanketed by their placid surface emotions]
[He tilts his head and shrugs a little]
I suppose in a way.
They're kind, passionate, hard-working. Sometimes to their own detriment
[He speaks fondly]
oh? how so?
[Intrigue]
[He pauses and purses his lips]
That seems like information a little too personal for me to be speaking in depth about, honestly.
[They shrug nonchalantly] just curious. thats what makes up humans after all, right? curiosity. [They lean back in their seat, staring at their shoes as if they were suddenly bored]
[He huffs half a laugh]
Not just humans. Many animals are curious creatures. And some d(a)emons as well, myself included.
[He trails off and settles. They're not giving off any emotion strong enough for him to feed from, so he'll just have to wait for the hour to be over.
His phone lets off two short buzzes, indicative of a text message. He's clearly exasperated as he checks it and responds.]
[He walks into the room and pulls off his satchel bag, sitting in one of the provided armchairs and scrolling through an article on his phone while he waits for the volunteer to arrive]

[He pauses and purses his lips]
That seems like information a little too personal for me to be speaking in depth about, honestly.
[He's waiting for them outside of their final class of the day, leaning with his shoulders flat against the wall, the picture of nonchalance]
@epsilon-dicere
[They're moving slowly, deliberately; one arm is over their stomach while the other grips on the strap of their backpack as if their life depended on it. Judging from their posture and the anguished emotions spiraling off of them, they're anything but fine]
[They look up from where they had been staring at the floor, and is surprised to see him]
.. wh— what are you doing here??
Telling someone to worry when they're already worried doesn't really work.
[He teases, pushing off the wall and turning to face the direction they're walking, extending his arm in an exaggerated bow]
I'm making sure you get home safe.
oh.. this again.. you really dont have to, i-i can make it home just fine..
[They don't sound sure of themself, and they look half a second away from collapsing]
I want to, Starlight.
I can also dull the pain for you, if you like.
[They fall silent, looking at him over the rims of their glasses]
oh.. um.. i mean, if youre sure, then..
dulling the pain would be nice..
I am, yes.
Okay, hold still a moment.
[He hovers his hand over their diaphragm, focusing his magic over the entirety of their body to dull the sensations that are making it harder for them to move.
He folds his hands behind his back when he's done, nodding with satisfaction]
That should do it.
Now... Shall we?
[They visibly relax as the pain disappears, letting out a sigh they had been keeping in all day. They straighten their posture, dropping the arm that had been covering their stomach]
thank you..
uh, yeah.. i already got all of my stuff before this last class, so..
You're welcome
[He nods, the leg of his pants shifts as he wraps his tail tighter around his leg to stop it from twitching like a happy cat, and starts walking.]
[They follow him, going at a slower pace. They notice his tail but doesn't say anything about it, chalking it up to nervousness]
[They manage to make it just outside of the school doors before they stumble a little, accidentally bumping Avior as they try to steady themself. They're still somewhat woozy]
sorry..
[He's reaching a hand out to steady them in an instant, brow furrowing]
It's fine, are you okay? The pain numbing shouldn't have worn off at all, especially not this soon.
i dont think healing magic can take away lightheadedness... or feeling like all my energy has been sapped away...
[They sigh again; they look tired]
[He hums, lips pursed, assessing them.
Finally, he crouches in front of them, facing away]
Hop on.
wh—
[They're confused before realization hits them like a truck, causing them to become flustered]
oh, n-no, you dont have to— i-i can walk myself, im just drained is all— really, its not like my legs are about to give out or anything—
[He looks up to the heavens a moment before he spins, one knee ending up on the ground as he reaches for their hand, capturing their fingers between his]
Starlight, please. You are tripping over your own feet and you've been in pain all day.
I promise you, it's not an inconvenience to me.
[They blink down at him, staring at where he's holding their hand. They seem flustered, as if they're not used to receiving attention in this way]
... okay.. if youre sure...
I am.
[He squeezes their fingers before he drops their hand and turns back around, offering his back again for them to climb on]
[They hesitate before climbing on, clearly still nervous about the whole thing]
... okay..?
[He stands upright with ease, tucking his hands under their their knees and moving forward.
He's forcing himself to remain incredibly casual about this whole endeavor, if he had a heartbeat, it would be hammering in his chest.]
[They squeak as he stands up, surprised and somewhat impressed with how easily he can carry them. Even so, they tighten their hold on him, more for their own comfort rather than getting a secure grip]
[They desperately don't want to talk, but it's unfortunately required if they're gonna guide him to their house]
um.. i live on ☠︎⚐︎❄︎☼︎☜︎✌︎☹︎* drive... do you know where that is..?
I'm vaguely aware. You've mentioned how far you live from school before but never the specific street.
You'll have to direct me more when we get close.
[He falls silent as he walks, his steps matching up with the sound of their heartbeat, it seems wholly unintentional]
[They nod along absentmindedly, small sparks of nervousness managing to shine through their emotional walls; they don't notice him stepping to their heartbeat]
[They stay silent up until they start getting close]
... take a right up here..
[His thumb strokes absently against their leg as he quietly ponders how to ease their nervousness. He's not sure that rambling at them would help.
He takes their direction with ease]
[They seem more relaxed at his touch, their nervousness lessening slightly]
... i dont think ive ever seen you be this quiet for this long..
[He barks a laugh]
I could say the same for you, Starlight.
do i really usually talk that much??
[They sound amused]
About as much as I do, I think. I suppose that's why we're so well-matched. As co-captains.
[He's slowing his step a bit, falling out of rhythm with their heartbeat simply to have more time]
mm... im.. im actually surprised that we work so well together.. i was under the impression that you didnt like me when we first met, heh..
[They notice him slowing down but doesn't comment on it, happy to have more time with him]
Really?
Hm. Well, I suppose I should apologize for past-me, then?
[They laugh quietly]
its okay.. youre just- really intimidating when youre in a debate..
[They trail off again]
I prefer the term passionate.
And you're the same way. Passionate, I mean. On the topics that particularly matter to you.
hah.. just fighting for what i think is right, is all.. even if it is a fake fight at the end of the day.. never really considered myself passionate...
... make a left up here...
It's admirable. And you shouldn't sell yourself short. You've changed my mind on a few topics.
[He makes the left as directed]
have i? what topics would those be?
[They sound genuinely interested]
How much a travesty my Senior Year was going to be with Aria falling apart and having to transfer, for one.
[They laugh a little]
you were quite hellbent on thinking that the entire world was falling apart.. im glad i was able to change your mind..
... anything else..?
[He huffs a laugh as well]
I had a ten year plan which included becoming a teacher there. I'm sure anyone could forgive a bit of dramaticism in that instance.
[He lets the silence linger a moment after they ask. thumb still idly stroking their leg]
Physical touch.
[He replies finally]
It's different within the walls of Aria. That place is made of magic and so are we...
ten year plan—?? i dont even know why im surprised..
... care to elaborate..?
[They're nervous again. A good kind of nervous, but nervous all the same]
Yes, ten years. Granted, I was already three years in, working toward the fourth. As in this year.
[He huffs a chuckle]
You really shouldn't be.
[He takes a few steps to gather his thoughts]
Something like this. I never could have imagined it before, it's not something I would do for anyone else. I've never been comfortable with a physical skin. It felt awkward and is probably what contributed to my unintentional intimidation.
.. i get that.. feeling uncomfy in your own body and like theres something off about it, but you cant figure out what it is.. i understand completely. im.. im glad i was able to help with that...
I'm sure Vin or even Vega would help with that if you asked.
[He clears his throat]
As for actual debate topics: minors using social media and morally justified civil disobedience
maybe... i dont know how id explain that to my parents, though...
[They laugh a little]
dont tell me you were against teens using social media?
Ah.
[He smiles a little]
I was. I didn't see the point. Why would we need social media when we can go out and interact in person? I didn't see many positives. And you have to admit, the gossip blog alone is a solid argument against. But you made fantastic arguments in favor. Information sharing, for one.
i honestly didnt expect to win; its a very real thing that people want to do under the guise of "protecting the youth," when really all they want is more control over what younger audiences consume. its true that social media and the internet as a whole has its negatives, but its main saving grace is that you can find information that your parents and the general news just arent going to tell you, and you can create connections with people who share your interests
... sorry for rambling.. take another right up here...
All points I hadn't considered. Which is exactly how you won me over.
Don't be
[He takes the right where they direct]
and your stance on civil disobedience was..?
[They're curious]
I was of the opinion that it was ineffective regardless of morals.
tell that to roads and businesses that have their usual everyday flow disrupted because of a simple protest
[They peer over his shoulder, having been resting their head lightly against the back of his neck most of the way]
... thats my house. across the street. no cars, thank god...
[He chuckles]
Key word being was, Starlight.
[He looks both ways for oncoming traffic before crossing the street]
Can you make it to the door or would you like me to bring you inside?
uh, i might need some help getting to my room.. its on the second floor and i think i might genuinely pass out if i try walking up the stairs alone..
Alright, then. I assume you'll need to unlock the door?
[He crouches when he reaches the door, allowing them down off his back and making sure they're somewhat steady on their feet before standing back up]
[They manage to stand on their own, but it's clear that they're tired as they sluggishly look through their bag, pulling out their keys and unlocking the door. They push it open before leaning against the doorframe, as if that small act had used up any spare energy they had left]
hah.. i feel like i could fall asleep right here..
[His brows furrow in concern as they lean against the doorframe.]
Maybe you should take tomorrow off of school entirely.
[He says as he scoops them up in a single fluid motion, holding them at the waist and under their knees. He steps over the threshold and closes the door behind them with a gentle back kick of his foot before making his way up the stairs]
[They were going to respond to his comment about them staying home, but they instead let put a surprised squeak as he picks them up, their face instantly going red]
wh-what are you doing??
Carrying you to your room.
[He replies nonchalantly]
It doesn't make much sense for you to climb back onto my back for such a short distance, does it?
[He pauses at the top of the stairs so they can direct him to the appropriate door]
ah.. this isnt what i meant when i said "help me up the stairs" but yknow, sure, why the hell not... [They sound incredibly flustered]
my room is there, across from my sister's..
[They point at the second door down the hall. There's a few small posters stuck to it, seemingly mimicking the door it's across from, which is filled from top to bottom in posters and stickers both store bought and handmade]
[He purses his lips]
You could barely take a step into your own house...
[He stops in front of their room]
Will you be okay from here?
[He bites back a half-sarcastic "or do you need me to tuck you into bed" but they know him well enough to guess what he's thinking by the way he trails off]
[He's waiting for them outside of their final class of the day, leaning with his shoulders flat against the wall, the picture of nonchalance]

.. i get that.. feeling uncomfy in your own body and like theres something off about it, but you cant figure out what it is.. i understand completely. im.. im glad i was able to help with that...

[He walks into the room and pulls off his satchel bag, sitting in one of the provided armchairs and scrolling through an article on his phone while he waits for the volunteer to arrive]
@epsilon-dicere
[He's waiting for them outside of their final class of the day, leaning with his shoulders flat against the wall, the picture of nonchalance]
@epsilon-dicere
[He takes a few steps to gather his thoughts]

.. i get that.. feeling uncomfy in your own body and like theres something off about it, but you cant figure out what it is.. i understand completely. im.. im glad i was able to help with that...

[He walks into the room and pulls off his satchel bag, sitting in one of the provided armchairs and scrolling through an article on his phone while he waits for the volunteer to arrive]
@epsilon-dicere
Taking it down when I'm thinking about it allows me to keep my focus current.
happy pride! are you part of the lgbtq+ community?
Happy Pride. I am, yes. Demisexual Demiromantic.
THEY WANT YOU SO BAD
I would like to believe that...
[He's waiting for them outside of their final class of the day, leaning with his shoulders flat against the wall, the picture of nonchalance]
@epsilon-dicere
