my main ocs are Adrik (one with black curly hair and glasses at various stages of misery), Miguel (tanned brunette with blue shirt), Nadine (dreadlocks and dark skin), Katsumi (brunette shag cut with piercings), and Ray (blonde dyed hair and blue eyes)

Other ocs you may have seen are Phoenix (either red shaved mullet with nose piercing, or long black hair with faded red ends), Rena (black hair with fringe and looks a lot like Adrik because they’re fraternal twins, but not to be confused with Adrik later on who has longer hair and a lot of scars) Dr Prince (light brown bun, glasses and lab coat) and Officer Douglas (moustache, salt and pepper hair, police uniform). There are more of course but they aren’t super relevant outside of backstories and stuff.

The basic jist of the lore (because otherwise we will be here for hours) is that a small percentage of the population have the ability to transform into monsters, known formally as ektromathropes and they are heavily oppressed and antagonised by the government and wider society. The first five listed (plus Phoenix) work for a resistance group called the USO or (underground shapeshifter organisation) while the latter 2 work for the government, with Officer Douglas being head of police in the city that much of the story takes place in (which has no name rn 🤦), and Dr Prince as the head of a bioweapon project known as Project Korolyov, named after a super powerful shapeshifter called Nikita Korolyov who they ran the experiments on. (<- will be important eventually when I finish writing the dang thing) Rena was kidnapped and experimented on by the scientists of the project as she bore strong resemblance to Nikita and so they assumed she’d have his abilities, however she didn’t possess his shapeshifting genetics and her body rejected the experiments. Her death at the hands of Dr Prince caused the project to be shut down, but the search for the next Korolyov continued to create the perfect living weapon. Their next target was Adrik after the scientists witnessed his seemingly above average talent for shapeshifting.

Who are and aren’t shapeshifters:

Adrik - yes, Miguel - no, Nadine - no, Katsumi - yes, Ray - yes, Rena - has limited traits, Phoenix - yes,

One of other important bits of the lore is Adrik’s relationship with Miguel as they understand each other like no one else, and each try to protect one another (to various degrees of success 😬). They’re a bit unhinged because they’re so loyal to each other that the rest of their morals kinda bend around that so by the end of the lore they’re willing to sacrifice so much for each other. They have this guard dog x sacrificial lamb thing going on where Adrik would happily sacrifice himself for Miguel and Miguel would happily kill to protect Adrik. However this causes a lot of conflict in their relationship which they slowly attempt to resolve over the course of the story.

Adrik and Rena’s doomed siblinghood is currently being rewritten but the main dynamic is that Rena desperately wants to be useful but Adrik feels he needs no one to save him. She was always the one to help him as a kid when he was being bullied, but as they grew older, Adrik started defending himself. Adrik told her during an argument that he didn’t need her anymore and she took it to heart. When she was kidnapped for Project Korolyov, Adrik tried to rescue her but got injured in the process. Rena realised she could help him escape and not get captured and put in the project, but she would need to sacrifice herself. She chose to so she could protect him one last time and Adrik never forgave himself for being unable to stop her. (i need to draw more of them together 🙂‍↕️)

Another part is Adrik’s dynamic with Ray which is extremely toxic and one sided. Ray is infatuated with Adrik and simultaneously jealous of his abilities so he tries to break him to the point where he can control him for himself (which backfireeeeesssss BIGTIME because Adrik beats him to death after Ray tries to kill Miguel and Katsumi). Adrik hates the fact that Ray did technically push him to be stronger, because it took so much out of him.

Kat and Ray’s dynamic is also pretty tragic because they were best friends and worked together for years. Kat would overlook any of Ray’s off-putting behaviour since he never hurt her or made her personally uncomfortable and so she defended him when Adrik tried to tell her he was abusive. When Ray turned on her, she realised she was wrong but it was too late to prevent any of the damage he had caused.

Nadine and Phoenix have a lot of lore but I’d rather not get into it since it’s pretty wip rn and I don’t wanna contradict myself later but saying something i end up changing.

I’m staring at my 11k word lore dump doc as I’m writing this and I have literally no way to condense any of this bullshit 😭😭 however I am trying to write my lore in a coherent manner in this wiki thing, so once I fix the plot holes and stuff I can put a link to it!! And it will be beautifully organised
