I think the issue comes from the projection of the writing onto an arguably good concept. Kara stands as the Everyman in the story, and her story stands in the hands of the other characters in the narrative. As much as this is an interesting idea, in practice Kara story fails to engage the audience in the same action based story telling as both Connor and Markus. Where it could serve as an emotional beat, interspersed between larger scenes, it also fails, due to David Cage’s inability to give Kara or Alice character besides their roles in the story (mother and child). This leads to a story where the only emotional engagement you can capture is surface level. Of course you care about a mother and her child in trying times, but beyond that, truly, how are the characters explored in such a way as to actually continually engage the audience with them.
