Twitter is burning up and I needed someplace to post my angsty thoughts and academic endeavors again, oops
places missed
2nd April 2020: I love working with Scot's The Discoverie of Witchcraft because it's such a weird text. I particularly love the section where he exposes how stage magic works.

10.10.2019; today i did some adulting and (re-)started the process to obtain my actual physical diploma, which may take a while, and took control over my finances. i think i'm quite savvy with money and i'm good at saving, but i created a detailed excel document with all my financial information and goals where i will write down my spending habits to learn more about them.

Motivation vs Discipline: Explained
Btw, if anyone is still confused with the difference between âmotivationâ and âdisciplineâ, let me put it like this:
⢠Motivation is incentive; something that encourage you to go on by imagining some form of rewards in the future if you do a certain activity; for example, taking a bath with the motivation of not wanting your crush to smell your bad natural body odor;
⢠Discipline is habit; it makes you do a certain activity without thinking of a future reward because your brain and body already think it is the normal thing to do; for example, putting cereal into the bowl before the milk â someone who do this everyday would naturally do it without thinking of any sort of reward before doing it.
In studyblrsâ case, having studying schedule based on motivations means you keep having to remind yourself about the rewards of studying hard (i.e proving your hated former classmates wrong, making your parents proud, getting lucrative job, etc). While this may work on some people, it doesnât sound realistic that your brain somehow can think the same motivations sound rewarding enough when youâre feeling down; and it is dangerous when youâre feeling down when you have five essays due or have an exam in the next week.
Meanwhile, having studying schedule based on discipline means that you keep studying at the scheduled times out of habit, because your body and brain thinks it is the right thing to do at that specific time. It sounds more realistic, because although youâre feeling down at that moment, staring down at the same sentences over and over again, highlighting it, and re-writing it down in your notes will make those sentences remembered by your brain. Or, even if your brain does not remember them later, you will know where the important sentences are, because you already highlighted it. Also, working on your assignments based on scheduled discipline means that although you make horrible essay in the first day, you will have more time to revise it later because working based on discipline means you donât procrastinate it to the last minutes.
In conclusion, we should all devise studying schedule based on discipline.
Anxieties of beginnings
Uni begins next week for me. (Yes, I know, we start a bit late.) Itâs my last year and the inevitable âlastsâ are coming up. Iâm scared.
Iâve slipped into the skin of autumn, the cinnamon and pumpkin perfuming each step I take, while the ancient archives await.

university is just *makes appointment* *fills water bottle* *updates google calendar* *buys shitty campus food* *answers emails* *makes another appointment* *stares at review page for thirty minutes* *laptop battery dies* *eats all your snacks as soon as you get to the library* *more emails* *walk behind slow people*

âI long for the moon,â
â Ana Blandiana, tr. by William M. Murray, from âThe Couple, The World,â
20 important study skills/tips iâve learned from my professors
1. start studying a week before every quiz/test. seriously.
2. watch youtube videos/ted talks on the topics you are learning about.
3. get lots of sleep! sleep helps you process the dayâs events, including what you learned.
4. write out your notes. itâs proven that handwritten notes help you learn better than typed out notes.
5. donât just read what your professor gives you. find academic journals, books, etc. that correspond with your subjects.
6. read the news! especially in the social sciences/humanities, connecting concepts with current events helps you understand and process more easily.
7. exercise! this doesnât have to be going on runs or lifting weights, it could even just be going for a 20 minute walk. just get your blood pumping, itâll help you focus.
8. study at your desk. it may be tempting to study in bed, but your brain connects your bed with sleep, so youâll get tired more quickly.
9. reviewing notes doesnât have to be something you sit down and do for an hour. skim through them and test your memory while eating breakfast!
10. expand your study time throughout the day to avoid burnout. for example, rather than studying for 5 hours straight, study for an hour here and there in between your activities.
11. make your notes organized and easy to read, but not distracting. bright colors and flashy notes may seem better, but can sometimes distract from the purpose of the notes.
12. use apps such as quizlet. this way, you can go through definitions while waiting in lines or walking to class.
13. itâs more important to know concepts rather than facts. for example, you should be able to take what you know and apply it to different situations, not just the situation the textbook gives you.
14. just because the professor doesnât require you to read textbook, doesnât mean you shouldnât. it helps explain concepts in a different way than your professor, and a lot of times hearing two different explanations for the same concept helps you understand it.
15. read in advance. read the textbook before your professor begins going over the chapter, so when he/she does, you can easily follow what they are saying.
16. do any extra credit work that comes your way. even if you donât need the extra boost now, you might later.
17. go to class!! if you always skip class and show up at office hours completely lost on the concepts, theyâll laugh in your face. theyâll take you 100x more seriously if you show up.
18. however, if you are sick, take a day off. itâs more beneficial to you in the long run.Â
19. learn how to say ânoâ. if you have an 8 am the next day, donât stay out until midnight with your friends.Â
20. donât stress too hard over quizzes. if you expect them to go horribly, they will. you got this.
January 14, 2019
My week 1 was characterized by:
trying new things (taking my first GE ever! lmao)
rekindling old friendships (from last year and even before college)
investing time in new friendships (joining a new org purely for the fun of it! my lovely future apartment mates and friends)
doing things I love but havenât done in a while (teaching! watching the bachelor! crying while watching the sunset)
2019 has been so good to me so far and I can only hope that the rest of this year is half as fun :â)
So far week 2 has been characterized by⌠rain LOL but honestly this is going to be such a good quarter I can feel it in my bones
